Catherine McNeil

I think people have put such enormous pressure on her becoming the next big thing, that everyone is expecting her to be at the level of someone who has been modeling for years (to this capacity). I just think she needs the time to grow and develop as a model, and she will learn, but you can't expect the change to happen overnight.

^yea..in a way id kind of hate to be catherine. just because theres SOO much pressure on her right now

its almost better to have a steady climb to the top where you can learn, grow, and have time and space to take everything in

in her case, it was just thrown into her face quite suddenly

she seems quite well-rounded though, so hopefully she can handle it

I think she'll be fine. Even if she doesn't live up to expectations a la Jessica Miller, if she's mature enough she'll work through it and come out better. I just can't remember the last time a model got so much attention and sooo many bookings right away!

She will deffinitely not fizzle out. Shes so down to earth!!!!

and when Kathy says people fight to get two days from Cat ,Miranda kerr and Alyssa SUtherland as much as I LVOE Miranda and Alyssa I dont think they compare up to catherine in terms of success straight away and even just success

Yeah i think she'll be fine. Im so excited for upcoming editorials and campaigns I think I might burst!

^Sorry, it's not ^_^ Freja will be the only-girl for Chanel again next season :flower:

Remember...Karl shoots Chanel, not Testino :D

^Testino has never shot for that, either  Though I guess it's possible?

Her exclusive contract with Testino narrows the field down but also makes it more difficult to figure out -- maybe he'll be shooting something he hasn't shot for a while, but the major French campaigns are slowly being taken by others one-by-one, so hm...

Damn, I'm can't beleive some of you guys are eating into the hype. Sure her face has got strong lines and she looks great but all this "next super models talk" is very over the top.

Faith do you know who has Valentino??:woot:

^Personally, I would be somewhat surprised if she got Valentino -- the collection for Fall bears an aura similar to that of Versace (Color schemes, especially), which Catherine's already fronting. In terms of her exclusivity - the last time Testino photographed for Valentino was Spring/Summer 2005, so it's not impossible that he was hired again and in turn cast Catherine for it. But with so many potential commonalities, it makes one wonder if the ads would end up being unique and appealing  That's what makes me doubt that she was booked for Valentino as well...

I mean, it could happen, but in my opinion it would truly be overkill to have her in the ads for both -_- I wouldn't be unhappy for her, of course, but my inner sense that Catherine is getting too much too early would become much stronger...not to mention the pressure on her (As others have already noted) to really stun the world with all those high-profile photographs. I would rather she got something minor just to have some balance.

Wow , you sound so expertyy!!
I understand your saying Valentino and versace had the same (almost) type of colour scehemes/auras and that Catherine , since she is already doing versace it would be kinf of too common and easy to mix the two brand ups or soemthing along that lines anwyays !! xD Thanks for that faith..
I guess shes getting too much all at once.. but I'm still SO SO SO happy for her!! Not many Aussie models..

Article(sorry if repost)

A YEAR ago Catherine McNeil didn't even know who Mario Testino was - today the teenage model is the envy of her peers after signing an exclusive contract with the renowned fashion photographer and star maker.
The man who helped shape the careers of Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen and even Princess Diana has said McNeil is the name of the fashion future.

Testino has spoken publicly for the first time in the prestigious US fashion magazine V.

"This girl is amazing," he told the magazine. "I think Catherine has got what it takes to be an amazing model. That's why I've put her on an exclusive contract."

That six-month contract with Testino has already paid off for McNeil.

She has just shot a Versace campaign in Paris and she'll star in the advertisements, due out in August, alongside Kate Moss.

The 18-year-old model spent last year working in Sydney with Chic Model Management before being catapulted into the international fashion world.

"I love working with him (Testino), he's a good teacher and he's got me some great jobs," McNeil told The Daily Telegraph.

She has also recently completed an advertising campaign for Dolce & Gabbana's D&G label and will star in ads for top New York designer Donna Karan.

The teenager has now left Australia and calls New York home. As well as the new surroundings she is also getting used to the title of supermodel.

After an era of waifs and girl-like looks for models, McNeil is being lauded for bringing back classic beauty and womanly curves.

V Magazine is the latest to give her the "supermodel" title as she headlined fashion shoot "Birth of a Supermodel".

The New York Times also gave her the supermodel tag after she appeared at 34 shows for top designers in Paris, Milan and New York in February.

And she is set to again appear with the supermodel tag in prestigious US magazine Vanity Fair. It is a tag the down-to-earth teenager still has trouble believing.

"I'm just a normal kid who has a weird job," she said. "I don't think I'm a supermodel."

She said her modelling success had given her the life she had always dreamed about.

Since January she has been living in New York and her life today involves constant travelling to a new job.

"When I was a kid I said I'd love to go to Paris and I'd love to travel. In the past four months I've been to every single place that I've ever wanted to go," she said.

The big trip she is looking forward to now is when she returns to Australia in August.

"I'm coming back to see my family and just hang out," she said.

"I can't wait to just hang out."

whoa..vanity fair. they never feature models do they? except for gemma's editorial and cover

^VF does, actually! They had a special cover feature for the Eastern European models (With Natalia, Carmen, and Karolina on the cover) a couple of years ago...and they'll be doing a Brazil-centric issue -- supposedly with models on the cover and all over the pages within -- later this year :)

Catherine's will probably be unique, though...not a cover but a short solo feature, most likely ^_^
