question

can someone explain too me the Chanel hate. Like so many ppl on the cover rumor thread are saying they hope Chanel doesn't get the cover of the Vogue It magazine and I am aways reading posts about how people don't like her. I know everyone has models that they like and dislike but whats peoples reasons for disliking her?

I know, Meme, it's why I haven't bothered to read those threads so I heard the news in Jourdan Dunn's. Chanel and Agyness Deyn (sp?) seem to incite special hatred in tFSers for reasons I cannot fathom. But it doesn't matter because those two keep on getting more popular.;)

A Vogue Italia cover would take her to the next level. I really hope she's included

As for people disliking her...i love it ...it seems like the more people hate her... the better she's doing :woot:
People have their reasons I suppose. Not everyone will like a particular model but there is a certain mob mentality when it comes to Chanel & a few others. Anyway, it doesn't matter. She is not going anywhere....anytime soon :p

Many people feel that she is only so popular or successful due to hype. Such as her being welcomed onto a Tyra talk show as a type of young representative for black models. Many feel she is only regarded highly because they put her at the top of the dark skinned model chart. Those people would argue she shouldn't be at the top of that chart.
Others simply don't find her attractive and then the appeal is even more confusing. When people can't understand the appeal of a model whatsoever they get sick of seeing them and their popularity that they consider unfounded. Hate is a word used loosely for those people who simply are just tired of seeing something they don't find attractive.

Personally it's very hard for me to find her attractive. I can appreciate certain photos but usually I will credit that to the angle, lighting, styling or technique of photography and not because of her physical appearance or skills. Because she is so widely used I can't base my opinions of her on every single individual photo at the time. Taking into account how she seems more naturally inclined to the cutesy commercial side of modeling, her expressions in candids, her interviews, and even her myspace photos ruins any illusion of a beautiful woman for me. I just see a child and I would argue the appeal of having a child in a magazine straining to appear as a beautiful woman. She fails to convince me.

I believe her allowing myspace photos to be public is a bad move in that aspect. For the sake of fans falling in love with her young and goofy personality, that is fine. For the teen vogue girl, it's great. But it is simply not everyone's cup of tea.

Oh, whatever. There are lots of models that lots of people don't like for similar reasons who don't get half the vitriol Chanel garners when she so much as gets half a space in a Gap ad. So that doesn't pass for me. As someone else pointed out she and a few other models seem to encourage ugly mass responses from the board. And you're not going to tell me it's partly because she has a public MySpace page with goofy pics.

I don't think she uses her myspace the same way we do. I believe she uses it to have someplace for her fans to look at her, and just to find out whats up with her.Of course she is going to plaster pictures of her all over the place, it acts more like a fan page IMHO, because if it were not she would have it as a private profile. Look at Coco Rocha she has a website, and I don't see people calling her conceited or what not. As for the hype I don't see why people get mad at her, Im sure she didn't create her own hype, It took people like Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley, Tyra Banks, LA Times, NY Times, Bloggers like Fashionista, Models.com to create that hype. They obviously saw something in her that seperated her from the hundreds of new black models that are out there and decided to start talking about her, thus creating hype. If casting directors didn't like her it is simple enough to say NO, but they haven't so obviously they see something there as well. I also feel people hate her because they always seem to place her as the TOP black model (not so much now), and she had no say in that, she simply works like all the other models, she does not control ANY of these people.

^^^And then rise again so you could look at the cover some more .

yes indeed. :lol::lol:

and thank you Flu for your comment. It's nice to read a critique of chanel on a mature and well thought out manner. I understand not liking a model's appeal. but some people on this forum go too far with their dislikes of Chanel (or any other models). Let's face it, Chanel isn't on the same level as models like Stam, Agyness, or Lily D. She isn't everywhere. Therefore I don't understand the "she's so popular, I'm so sick of her" argument. I believe her last editorial in US vogue was in July. I have yet to see her in Vogue Italia or Paris. Nor has Chanel had a single girl campaign. Chanel only had one photo In V, and the only both major covers she had (French and US Vogue) were shared with a lot of other girls. and her runway appearance were just good, not great. She wasn't at Chanel, LV, or Lanvin this past season.

So with this decent career people still flip every time they see her. People assume she has a bad personality. But yet she still seems to have a lot of friends backstage including Tanya D who is known for being one of nicest models out there. I don't want to play the race card because everyone seems to love Jourdan and Hollis.

I just don't get all the dislike. What's so wrong about her being on the cover of Vogue Italia? Whats so wrong with her having a career?

All this hate baffles me. I guess its why I am such a big fan of Chanel. I feel like she needs big fans to counter the big haters.

It is because she is a Black girl, with a very strong personality. BOTTOM LINE. If she was White, super sweet and reserved, there would be no problem. From the moment Chanel took her first photo, she gave off this braggadacio, this confidence that is very unnerving for people who are not too happy about seeing a Black model do as well as she is. She will not be on the levels of Lily or Jessica Stam because she is not their color, that is NOT her fault. Work Chanel, I hope to see her on the cover, because you cannot have Jourdan and no Chanel.

^^ Yes....It will be fairly dissapointed because thanks to Chanel there was a resurgance in the public interest in black models! Liya had left the scene a little and there was really no one, until Chanel came.

but if its race alone then how can you explain the success of models like jourdan, hollis, naomi campbell and liya? i'm not saying they did not face discrimination. but at least i don't read about how people hate them on this forum.
