Chanel Iman

Chanel Iman Robinson, a 17-year-old model from Los Angeles, is celebrated enough in the industry to drop her last name, in the style of Naomi, Cindy and Tyra. But she still gets passed over for jobs. "I will fly to London for what is supposed to be 20 casting calls and won't get but 15 because the other five designers don't want black models," she says. "That's not going to happen to white models. It's upsetting and insulting and totally backwards.''

Newsweek

I cannot believe she passed over London because 5 designers did not want her. 15 is more than what your average model does...:(

There's a very limited number of big shows out in London.

It seems that she has not been getting the shows her agents want her to do out there.

I guess it's not a very wise for a model of her calibre to walk for 15 random, smaller designers.

To me its like.....by doing all the 15 shows your exposing yourself to that market, since she is considered a top working model they probably would have given her the opening or closing spot which is still very good. If I were a model I would rather end up with the shows cux if you dont you end up with nothing. Shows equal money! And hey if Linda Evangelista did it(Herve Leger), she did it for free though, why cant she. For all you know one of these designers could be the next big thing and she will have the privilage to have worked for them!

Exactly! Its NO SHADE, because I love my Black people, and wish there were more of us on the runway, but I cant help but think this is a wonderful position for Chanel to be in, as a fan of hers. Yes Chanel, rack up the shows, OK, you are the only one doing the 15, thats sad, but will do good for her career in the long run. She will be seen as exclusive, the only BLACK girl, the IT. I mean, yes, its unfortunate, but COME ON, Chanel better work.

I totally agree with you 100% she should have done those shows, but maybe it wasnt her decision no to walk those shows it could be that her agents didnt want her to, since they werent big designers. I want to think that fame hasnt gotten so hight into her brain.

:lol: I love it when Crakk gets in here :lol:

On that article posted earlier.
Some agencies strategically promote their models to only do the best of the best and will simply not settle for any less.
Most models skip London, anyway. Most shows pay in clothes, i don't think she is missing out big time financially. Almost all the designers do in NYC.
Most Parisian houses are known for paying the models very little to appear in the RTW shows.
It's usually these HC shows that pay well for most models.

^ Wow J'ador-Dior you are fast! Lol, thanks she looks beautiful as always!
