Exclusive Interview: Chanel Iman, StyleBistro Celebrity Guest Editor
When speaking with Chanel Iman, a strong sense of her youthful free-spirit comes through, pleasantly balanced with a down-to-earth wisdom that surpasses her years. At only 20, Chanel has taken the modeling world by storm.
The LA born glamazon started her career at only 13 and has since walked for the major fashion houses in New York, Paris, London and Milan. The runways of Marc Jacobs, Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Valentino and the like, quickly became Chanel's stomping grounds.
With countless campaigns under her belt, this Victoria's Secret Angel's future is limitless. StyleBistro had the pleasure of talking with the modeling prodigy about the industry, her future plans and what matters to her most.
SB: How would you describe your personal style?
I really feel the most comfortable in a baseball cap, a tank top and jeans. And now of course it's sumer, so a pair of shorts and converse. I would say my normal style is casual hipster, but when it's time to get dressed up and go out I like to dress really nice and put on beautiful high-fashion clothes.
SB: What is your favorite part of modeling?
All the really cool people that you get to make friendships and relationships with and being able to have the freedom to go wherever you want with those friends. I'm 20 years old at the moment and I'm just enjoying life and sucking every piece of this moment in.
SB: What is the hardest part?
Obviously, I think most people would agree, but just being away from my family. I'm very family oriented and I love my family and everyone's from LA and no one's here in New York, but I'm the one who lives in New York so it's very difficult to be distant from my family when I'm away.
SB: What do you hope to be doing in five years? Any specific career goals?
Well, I'm going to be honest, I love my fashion career and I love living in New York but hopefully in five years I'll be able to move back to LA just because that's where my family is. I don't know, you never know where you're going to end up, you just have to remain happy and secure with where you're living. I don't know where I'll be, I just know I'm going to be in a better place than today. I mean every day you grow, so it will definitely be something. I actually look forward to five years from now.
SB: What makes you feel beautiful?
Having beautiful people around always makes you feel beautiful and confident. Like positive energy. For me it's all about energy and connections.
SB: Do you have any advice for aspiring models or younger girls in general?
Just believe in yourself. I just tell my niece, no matter if you want to be a model or an actress, you just have to be confident. Everything happens for a reason. If it doesn't happen for you then it's not meant for you, but if it does happen for you then make the best out of it and be the best.
stylebistro.comAt the moment I'm loving Tom Ford's collection, I did a really cool spread with all Tom Ford's clothes that hasn't come out yet and I just really love every piece that I put on. There's so many different designers but at the moment I'm loving everything of Tom Ford's, obviously for every day wear I like wearing Alexander Wang. At the moment that's what I'm wearing.

Get it girl. Loving how Stylebistro featured her though. It was kind of sad for a stan like me to read that within five years she wants to move back to LA with her family
That probably means less work but good for her for being family oriented <3
I think it's pretty dope that she wants to get back to somewhat normal living in five years. She's been doing this for how long? That'll give her time to go to school and figure out like, full direction on where she wants to take her life. Like she came in, does what she wants and cashes out. What a blessing to be able to take a major break from working at 25 having the means to be comfortable enough to do that!
Tons, I'm really excited about this Tom Ford editorial she was talking about.
I can't wait either! Hopefully it's a major mag tho. I mean Tom Ford isn't just seen in every magazine. Ugh, i'm dying to see the results.

you took the words rite outta my mouth!! that's exactly what i thought when i heard our girl is moving to LA!! it's kinda a step back & even though it's her life & if we're real "stans" then we should support whatever she chooses to do with HER life, i'm still annoyed that she wants to go to LAStan-to-stan? hahahaha love it
But tbh, if she stops modeling by then she would be just like any other model. By then, she's gonna be unwanted by designers or the fashion world and if she's gonna turn up to a party, it's gonna be like a lame D-list one. I hope tho, that even though she moves to LA she still keeps working. I still wanna see her in Vogue! And yeah, she probably doesn't care about what we say, (the five of us here lol) but for the sakes of our hearts Chanel, keep doing your thing! We love it and you're the best out there <3

LA.. really?? what's in LA??
the club scenes over there are lame unless ur a kardashian.
