First, thank you for the @s about the BV-Chanel side by sides. I appreciate it.
Personally, I’ve never followed Bottega very much, I wouldn’t have remembered these looks myself. This Chanel debut is the most attention I’ve ever paid to MB. 2018 Celine is also far enough many besides me probably don’t recall it in detail.
So to perhaps answer ur question. I think many see a bit of this-and-that but a new presentation for a different house a year or years later still feels fresh and wondrous, especially when you’re watching it live, in the rush of seeing detail shots be uploaded to Vogue or backstage pics on the Impression. I’m active on “fashion twitter” & speaking firsthand I think many fashion hobbyists & even professionals are authentically swept up in the swell of fashion weeks and not intentionally “overhyping.” People who were very fond of his Bottega are probably also less critical about seeing some of it again- and to be fair in my opinion a few of the comparisons are “loose” and not super obvious copies. He was also only at BV for 4 years I think? So some of these elements he’s probably trying to make “his thing”, which I can understand. If he’s still doing fuzzy hats in 10 years, it’ll stop being “a BV knockoff.”
But in fashion of the past 10 years, people are used to repetition, commercialism, etc. They’ll have a higher tolerance for it and even sometimes an appreciation of it. MB also has the benefit of coming after VV lol. And yes Awar helped, Ayo helps, Margot, Nicole, the set, and the built up suspense. All of that is just part of the industry these days though. It’s not a special manipulation tactic sourced directly from his deviousness.
I understand ur criticisms tho but like Lola said, people loving and praising what you wouldn’t is not always nefarious. Millions of people get genuinely excited to grab Chipotle after work, and it’s not like that’s gourmet, you know?🤷🏾♀️In fact, he has a third the ig followers they do lol😹
Yes, my problem is never enjoying or liking it. As I said, I liked bad shows in the past, I liked some shows that are mediocre… but that’s liking and enjoying, something different to something being good, original, modern and complete.
In some BV threads from the past I always said this guy, even if he is too influenced by Phoebe, has something, he does some style tricks that are interesting and so on. But that doesn’t make him great. And this collection is not what people are praising it to be.
What I hate is people not being objective. The fuss around it all is ridiculous at this point. He had better collections at BV and nobody reacted 1/7 of what we’ve seen.
And yeah, I understand it’s Chanel, it’s a very expected show (I was there and omg, never felt that energy in my life, it was really exciting, everyone was very excited even before it started).
Buuuut the collection itself is meh. It has many flops. Its not round enough. Which is ok, its his first one and I understand it.
The thing is that people (journalists) are kinda pretending that it’s better than it is. And I’m baffled because he had much better collections at BV that never got this kind of fuss. So my point is that fashion people are just a joke that jump in the bandwagon and have 0 integrity.
If they say, well it was a decent start, and I loved the atmosphere so that made me enjoy the collectio a lot, that’s one thing. Saying that MB has saved Chanel like if he was a genius. that it was an amazing collection, blablahblah is just a lie.
I do think he made Chanel relevant again tho.
