shadow said:I visited Glasgow several times and was fascinated by the neds. In general, one see really gulf-deep class distinctions in the UK, but the super-low working classes (I guess chavs and neds belong to them) have developed a separate kind of aestheticsense. They are actually proud of their outfits, trends, accessories and do not try to hide their humble origins.
Something else which amazed me in Glasgow is the teenage girls on friday night, showing bare legs and bellies (pink) wearing tiny minis, no tights, in the middle of WINTER.![]()
And no coat!

stilista said:I think you're giving the Chavs unneccessary pity, Lady Muck. They don't need it...they're perfectly happy hunting in their own packs, making other people's lives a misery by hanging around street corners, spitting, abusing, swearing, vandalising and quite often bringing poor little souls into the world who have the misfortune of having one as a mother & father.
Lady Muck said:That comment just shows your predjudices more than anything else.
You are describing anti social behaviour. Anyone can behave in an antisocial way, regardless of the labels they wear.
If you made those comments about someone who was black, you'd be accused of predjudice. But it seems fair play to say the same about the working class?
stilista said:I am not prejudiced against anyone because of the way they dress, Lady Muck, rather the way they behave. Perhaps it's unfortunate the vast majority of trouble-making, antisocial, problem causers in British society tend to dress as one tribe - so much so, that they have been labelled with a name.
I don't think these people are "working class". They're certainly not like any working class people I know. You know, the ones who work? The ones who are proud of their homes, keep themselves and their property clean and decent, and who have respect for themselves and others.
and im glad so see theres another face from newcastle on the board welcome![]()
