Chav Culture

Ok.. I read the first page of this and I have no idea whats going on. A bit of culture shock via the internet  oh man, this is educational. I shall pick up some new slang. If only I knew what anyone was talking about

I visited Glasgow several times and was fascinated by the neds. In general, one see really gulf-deep class distinctions in the UK, but the super-low working classes (I guess chavs and neds belong to them) have developed a separate kind of aesthetic :D sense. They are actually proud of their outfits, trends, accessories and do not try to hide their humble origins.

Something else which amazed me in Glasgow is the teenage girls on friday night, showing bare legs and bellies (pink) wearing tiny minis, no tights, in the middle of WINTER.

And no coat!

What a great place Glasgow is, my home town.

Lol this is the funniest thread... i cant believe how many people we have from Newcastle here! I gotta say being from York originally the chavas are in a league of their own up here(even worse than liverpool ones, which are fairly shocking). I went along to the Tuxedo Princess one night in my freshers week, and never dared go back...but it was fairly entertaining. Every taxi driver we spoke to warned us to stay well away at weekends as apparently they are out in force, hehe.

^ ^ shadow,

ive also witnessed this, im amazed they dont die of hyperthermia. must have some thick 'beer jackets' on,

I hate that the LV bag the couture trackies and the check burberry has been made cheap and trashy by chavs and chavettes! I support fox-hunting but as a mate of mine said " ban fox-huntin if you want but please bring in chav-huntin"

This is why I hate LV bags. So much.

Dis is a well sound topic like mate, I wen onna da sky 1 site lik n i errrm did dat boss quiz thin dat waz da beast. DA questions were ded werid innit ??

Ok in case you dont get that ill translate from scally/chav talk to normal english. I said that
this is a good topic and i went onto the sky one website and did the quiz and some of the questions were a bit werid. but any ways here are my results

You Scored 21 out of 20

You’ve worn a splash of Burberry here or there but you’ve soon learnt the error of your ways. You’re desperate not to be a Chav, but still sometimes find a little bit of Chav slips through your subconscious. We recommend regression therapy to rid yourself of your inner Chav.

Sometimes I don't get this site -

ok I can see this thread is kind of a joke, but personally I don't like the idea of judging someone and looking down on them - the whole 'chav' thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth - it smacks of people picking on a certain group of people to make themselves feel superior.

In fact another board I post on banned the whole chav thing because its in pretty bad taste.

.....and this thread was started by a mod!

Yet everytime anyone tries to start a (valid IMHO) thread about anorexia in models the thread is deleted! Personally I'd like to see a bit less fluff and more debate. Perhaps I'm on my own, I dunno. :innocent:

I think you're giving the Chavs unneccessary pity, Lady Muck. They don't need it...they're perfectly happy hunting in their own packs, making other people's lives a misery by hanging around street corners, spitting, abusing, swearing, vandalising and quite often bringing poor little souls into the world who have the misfortune of having one as a mother & father.

was it something i said ?? ne ways i have no pity for chavs when they stop mugging old ladies, shop lifting, and actually do an honest days work then ill show them pitty.

That comment just shows your predjudices more than anything else.

You are describing anti social behaviour. Anyone can behave in an antisocial way, regardless of the labels they wear.

If you made those comments about someone who was black, you'd be accused of predjudice. But it seems fair play to say the same about the working class?

we are all talking generally, of course there are probally some nice chavs, its just a shame the bad ones give them a bad name adn paint them all with the same brush. I feel kind of sorry for them in a way.omg cant believe im saying this

Not ALL chavs are working-class, I guess that shows you're prejudiced too.

i do believe there are some good charv's some of my friends i had/have in school are charv's.

but there is no denying that i have seen some shocking things and these were caused by what i would class as charv's. they are in no doubt intimidating up here. not because of the way they look but the way they act this is why they have been generalised upon. yes there are good charv's but then again there are bad ones i supose this could be generalised to any groups. but from what i have seen in my time which to be honest hasnt been very long i avoid them.

and im glad so see theres another face from newcastle on the board welcome:flower:

I am not prejudiced against anyone because of the way they dress, Lady Muck, rather the way they behave. Perhaps it's unfortunate the vast majority of trouble-making, antisocial, problem causers in British society tend to dress as one tribe - so much so, that they have been labelled with a name.

I don't think these people are "working class". They're certainly not like any working class people I know. You know, the ones who work? The ones who are proud of their homes, keep themselves and their property clean and decent, and who have respect for themselves and others.

I won't tar all people who dress this way with the same brush. Of course there are decent people who just don't know any better, maybe dont realise that by dressing in a certain way it makes people assume they will be a trouble maker.

But, I have been the victim of quite violent abuse from Chavs. I've never been attacked by a well dressed, respectable looking kid, but definitely by one in a Burberry cap with name rings and chains.
I think anyone who has ever felt afraid to walk down a street because there's a crowd of them at the bottom is perfectly entitled to have a snigger. After all, we're not the ones out there making other people's lives a misery. I think it's wonderful how light hearted the Chav discussion is, so I really don't think there's a need to censor it.

Exactly. Haven't you heard of the Chavistocracy Lady Muck?

I agree with stilista. For me, anyway, the tag "Chav" is as much a description of attitude and behaviour as it is the way someone dresses.

hey there hun!

Think im gonna sidestep this debate before it gets too heated, but i agree with stilista, and c'mon there is countless magazine, newspaper and i even TV shows mocking the chavs. they know it, and they are proud of their bad taste! my local radio station was running a competition for how many you could spot in a day, and interviewing the chavs themselves! so please, its blatently not just this website labelling and having a giggle at them.

i just need to step in and defend myself...because..
a-when i posted this article...i was not a mod...and
b-americans don't have such a thing...

so it was more of a 'curiosity' for me than anything else...

i guess it's similar to the american term 'redneck'...
but we even have tv shows now...'are you a rednec?'...

so they don't seem to mind..in fact they even seem to take pride in the label...
so i'm not judging..i'm just sharing this particular phenomenon...i actually think it is very interesting from a sociological point of view...and that's a lot of what 'fashion' is about...identifying oneself with a certain group...

as an outsider ...i think it's fascinating...:flower:

ps...don't you think the chav's are having a laugh at all the 'yuppies'...or whatever they call the mainstream..?...i'm quite certain it goes both ways...it usually does...:p
