This isn't so much a mainstream trend but something i've been noticing and been inspired by lately. I actually got into it through various things, Lily Allen and watching So You Think You Can Dance ( I know) when they style the hip hop dancers and susie mentioned 'ironic chav' in her blog so I felt the need to post. I'm just really loving unexpected combinations of really prim outfits with loads of big chunky gold necklaces or giant earrings. The juxtaposition of these things is something I'm just into  ^_^ Might need to make a pit stop at Argos

Some photos to get the thread going:

The last photo is a guying wearing the look ironicly but I felt the need to include. Both photos courtesy of susie_bubbles style blog http://stylebubble.typepad.com/style_bubble/2006/week26/index.html

the link to her article on 'ironic chav' http://stylebubble.typepad.com/style_bubble/2006/06/ironic_chavblin.html

Found the Lily Allen photos. All of them are courtesy of bprevost at flickr.com

haha the ida why did you delete that message? I certainly don't expect others to like this 'trend' but I like to hear others thoughts.

Also I think the look I'm thinking of has a lot of hiphop references, not just chav. Maybe chav is even the wrong word but they wear similar sort of jewelry plus the alliteration works  Giant gold earrings

Goddammit, I wanted to edit it

I don't think it's that bad. It just depends on the person who is wearing it and their personality for it to properly work. ^_^

I don't know if I'd call it a Chav look really but I definitely see the reference. I see this as a hiphop influence as someone said but moreso as just another avenue of the 70's that are very big right now. small shorts, big belts, loose shirts, gaudy gold necklaces, earrings, bangels, etc.. I think it's more stemming from that sort of thing but like I said I def see the chav connection as well. :flower:

and I think it can be very horrible looking BUT also very good looking when done right :)

I actually think on the right person, and (this is going to sound pretentious) if you wear the look so that's dripping with irony (like I said on my blog) - somehow, it's a look that's so wrong it's right. You have to take it to extremes in order for it to actually look ok me thinks.

Oh dear....am I going to have to buy Elizabeth Duke jewellery....

Meg: Thanks for the thread and the linkback!

in my city alot of the "scene" kids do this look .. vintage sports were and adidas orginal stuff... but i always figured this was a more 70's 80's influence rather then chav .. maybe not .. but to me chav chic is such an oxymoron as chav is far far far from chic
oh and i love lilly allen . her musics so upbeat :)
