I know this is a shopping thread but.....does anyone have any hotel recommendations for Chicago? My boyfriend and I are thinking of going away for a weekend at the end of June for lots of good eating and we really enjoy small, interesting boutique type hotels. I'd prefer something under $200 a night since a lot of the most well known boutique hotels are priced starting at about $220. Is there some unknown gem that I'm missing?!

Meg, you could try The Willows or The Majestic, both are in Lakeview which is a nice neighborhood on the North Side. Alternatively, you could try the W Hotel on Lake Shore Drive...I'm note sure what their room rate is but they do have packages like the one below.

Yes. It was essentially a bad decision to purchase my MacBook Pro in Chicago. The tax was incredibly heartbreaking, esp. considering how much a MacBook costs by itself.
I also recently bought some Uggs from the store downtown and I definitely should've purchased those online as well. Waaaah.


And I would definitely check it out in person first, then order online if you'd rather not have to pay the sales tax. I mean, depending what you're wanting and where you look - you may actually find the bag on sale, and in that case... buying it there on the spot may be the better decision.

That's pretty much what I've been doing plus...shopping around online...I've noticed that prices vary quite a bit between sites. If you're lucky you can find it for less...or find a coupon for the online boutique.

I'm not shopping here anymore either, but it makes me a bit nervous to do too much shopping online with how bad the postal service is and how difficult it is to get a UPS package in my building as well..hmm..I'm going shopping in Minneapolis

We are finally getting a Zara guys

They are opening one soon at Old Orchard Mall. Not sure of the exact date, I just know sometime Fall 2008.

They will also be opening one later at Chicago Place at 700 N. Michigan Ave but there is no set date yet...
