Chicago shopping

I was flipping through some book about vintage shopping awhile ago at work, and it listed these as being the best second-hand stores in Chicago. I've been to a handful, but I was curious to see what you guys thought of them.

Arrow, Backseat Betty, Beatnik, Couture Club, Hyde 'n' Seek, Hubba Hubbs, Lost Era, Shangri La, Silver Moon, Vintage Fibre Works, Wacky Cats, Vivacity Vintage

Silver Moon is a pretty store, but I thought it was incredibly overpriced vintage. Also, I noticed that they seemed to carry larger sizes. There were a few exquisite pieces, but most of the stuff (at least, when I visited) were just like prom dresses from the 80's. Nothing special, and certainly nothing to justify their pricetags.

I like Hollywood Mirror a lot they have all kind of things they have an impressive cowboy boot and shoe selection I got a really cute 1950s pleated skirt and a few other things. Not overly expensive 20-50 for a dress. And a ragstock is above it, its not as high class but if you dig you can find some good vintage. Land of the Lost is good vintage as well. All of them are on Belmont just take the redline to the belmont stop and there are a ton of stores. Belmont army carries new clothes but has things like Ben Sherman and the like.

Yeah, Hollywood Mirror is sort of similar. Yes, it's vintage, but it has that costumey feel. I'm still trying to find some vintage places in the city that aren't like that! But in other news, we're finally getting a Marc Jacobs -- Rush and Walton, under the Elysian million-bajillion condo building.

Is anyone else super excited about the big new Barney's space in Gold Coast?

By the way -- if anyone ever needs a shopping buddy, send me a PM!

Yesyesyes. I heard Anthropologie is going into the old space, and a new one on State street as well.

I'm excited to walk around once it opens but I just don't see how they're going to sell enough to make such a large store a viable proposition...the combination of the economic downturn and our horrifically high sales tax makes me wonder who's going to shop there.

There'll be ppl going to that Barney's but who'll shop at that new Anthropologie...love their sales though. haha.

Everrryyyything at Anthro eventually goes on sale, it's true. I never buy anything full price there, because I know in a few weeks it'll be marked down. Well, that new space will have plenty more room for sales racks... :woot:

Love anthropologie I buy tons of stuff but always on sale I am not going to buy a 200$ dress when I can get it for 50

New vintage store Kokorokoko celebrates the '80s, '90s and even the '00s

Ukie Village just got a(nother) dose of hipster cool, this time of the "vintage" variety. While it seems somehow wrong to refer to '80s and '90s fashions as vintage, Kokorokoko, a fun-loving, tongue-in-chic resale shop specializing in clothes and accessories from those bygone eras, revels in it. And with designers repeatedly referencing those heydays (think neon colors, leggings, etc.), this is a store that's time has come.
Sift through such stellar finds as Body Glove surfer-boy T-shirts, curious accessories and fabulous footwear, as well as designer pieces from the likes of Fendi, anna sui issey miyaki and Anne Klein. Kokorokoko owners Sasha Hodges and Ross Kelly also carry new designs by up-and-coming artists, such as purses and accessories from kristena witherspoon, hand-printed T-shirts and scarves from kiyomi kimbleand recycled fabric handbags from danny volk.
Kokorokoko, 1112 N. Ashland Ave., 773-252-6996

Tim Gunn will be appearing at the Kate Spade on 56 Oak St. April 26 [4-6pm], but you must purchase at least $100 worth of merchandise for a photo.
