Child Beauty Queens

What are your opinions of this topic: Child beauty queens? (i.e. Jonbenet Ramsey).

I think it can be cute if the child is dressed up and maybe doing a talent show or something, still looking and behaving like a child though.

However, I don't agree with it once they are wearing loads of makeup and sexualized; they don't even look like a child anymore, but rather a mini Anna Nicole. I'm sure some children love it (if I were a parent I doubt I would advocate it), but I feel sorry for the children whose mothers or fathers practically force them into it.

I couldn't agree more. There are times when my daughter comes home from NY that I question my IQ is to let her compete in the modeling game. I can't imagine doing that to a younger child who is not mature enough to handle the competion and most of the time,the rejection they face. Sometimes I even wonder if Ali can.

i was strictly talking bout the mums who do this to their 1/2/3/4/5/6 year old kids .
they should have their kids taken away

I do know what you meant. I was just stating that I feel bad at the age Ali is to let her face what she has to. I can't imagine putting a younger child under that kind of pressure even though it's a different industry. At least in our case the descion is Ali's. Please forgive me if it came out sounding different.

Probably why my mum didn't let my ssiter (who is now 7) do any child modelling when she was younger. The scout got a firm no she says.

Aw Model_Mom I'm sure Ali will be fine in modeling...having a person like you around to instill great values and moral into her will keep her levelheaded and strong...

I can understand your worry though..Its a motherly thing...but seriously I bet she'll be just fine, don't feel bad

I see nothing wrong if the child is fully willing and enjoys in the fun, but once their parents become stage parents and starts to push them to win and gets mad at them because they stumbled a bit on their talent routine thats when its absolutely not right ....

I know some stage mothers and it hurts the childs esteem when their parents scold them for idiotic things like that. THey think they are a failure to their parents eyes and forces themselves to win just for their parents..

If I had a daughter I would let her if thats what she really wanted. If it makes her happy, I will encourage her to follow her heart. I would never push her and never scold her if she messed up...no matter if she wins or loses, She'd still be a winner in my eyes.

i think it depends on how the kids are prejected and the intentions. If its a fun school thing then its different from a commercialised adult sexed up situatiuon that s daft!!

I agree. When I worked at a boutique, we had moms come in all the time looking for pageant dresses for 2, 3, 4 year olds. just wrong

Im against that, it entitles children to be exploded by greedy parents... child grows with their childhood missing, and sh*t like that... Im completely against it

Yes, that's way too young for it to be something the child herself wants to do.

It's sick. It's bad enough that young kids are put in a situation where they can't handle certain things going on, such as rejection. I mean, you can't tell me that being rejected like that and then having your parent be pissed isn't gonna f**k you up in the future. But what's worse is that the parents push these kids like they're adults. I mean, no 3 or 4 or 5 year old is emotionally or mentally strong enough to deal with all that pressure. To me, any parent who puts their kid in a beauty pageant for more then just fun should have their children taken away from them. And anybody who condones child beauty pageants should be shot. What are these kids, show dogs??? To me though, I think it goes really deep, I mean, there has to be a subconscious reason why the parent pushes their child to do this. Can we say therapy?

Eh, yeah a toddler shouldn't..but I think once they can tell me for themselves "mommy I want to be in a pageant" then I think that they are old enough to do that, ONLY if they are the ones who told me..not influenced by anyone else...

no offence but most of the childrens mothers seem to be fat and ugly ! is this a reflecion on what they would like to look like ! do they think that people will think they r pritty if there child is !! i think most people do it so they can boast about trophies their daughter has won !

i read something about a pushy mum who made her daughter enter pagents, and she put the curlers so tightly in her hair that the little girl was screaming in pain

i think that kinda thing is scarey to see.........plus its gold dust for perverts who like little girls
