FORBESThe Dior Production
The production was choreographed by veteran director Robert Wilson, who among other accolades is known for his stage adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando novel which featured French actress Isabelle Huppert.
Mirroring aforementioned Orlando influence, Wilson drew on the novel’s structure, dividing the production’s staging into five time travelling movements featuring dramatic landscapes of fire and ice with glowing molton rocks lowered from on high, giant iceberg sculptures which emerged from below ground level and a Pterodactyl that sailed magnificently across the cavernous venue.
This was not good. It was very ambitious and grand in terms of presentation, but the clothes in that space made absolutely no sense. And most of these pieces look like they belong in her Resort 2025 Scotland collection, no?
Which brings me to my second point - why is she so obsessed with medieval / historic costumes and clothing at the moment? It doesn't look modern at all. Well at least not in her hands. Dior clothes from the 1940s/1950s look more modern than this, which is bizarre.
What's clear to me from this collection is that she needs to take a long, long break from the fashion industry and actually take some time to redefine what her aesthetic is and think about what, if anything, she adds to the fashion landscape. Because at the moment, apart from being a champion for female artists and creatives, she is bringing nothing.
I think Maria Grazia would be better suited to the position of a museum director or curator or a board member. She could do wonders in those places and really make an impact. But as a designer of a prestigious Maison? I don't think so.
nope she can retire, really retire.i fully agree with your points. variations of historic costumes without a concrete plot is something that always puzzled me about MGC's Dior.
I think at this point MGC sort of understands that anything bizarre with the DiorMiss Diorlabel will sell like hot pies, so she might as well produce absolute nonsense as it will sell regardless, dior vic girlies would love anything
in my humble opinion she lasted this long out of pure luck as well as significant luxury market necessities that we have seen happening over the years but now its clear as day that her vision is outdated and shes stuck in the same place in terms of the fashion she produces
she would totally make a great board member for opera houses or galleries, thats for sure! and would bring so much attention and profit to those places that are in dire need of that
as long as shes not a CD we are all happy ha hanope she can retire, really retire.
No. Retirement, she has hurt fashion so much, no need to find her another occupation. Plenty have retired for good.as long as shes not a CD we are all happy ha ha
i genuinely am surprised how she lasted this long in Dior. what do these c suits look for???No. Retirement, she has hurt fashion so much, no need to find her another occupation. Plenty have retired for good.
Predictability. To know that CD will be able to pay the bills next year - from that angle Maria is very desirable.i genuinely am surprised how she lasted this long in Dior. what do these c suits look for???
I mean with the amount of times she's reheated JG's nachos (like today), they should.Gosh bring JG back at this point!!!! my eyeballs need to go to rehab![]()
Or it might have been a calculated move all along. Establish post-Galliano stability with an autopilot designer who will keep the lights on while wiping the slate clean with her dishwater style, and then can her when enough time has passed when the house is ready for another outspoken designer. If she is leaving it’s because Dior can no longer predict how well her pieces will do.
I hated seeing these logo t-shirts on the runway! Is this the first time we’ve seen J’Adore Dior tees on the runway since Spring 2005?
Regardless, so drab. Have never been able to sit through a full show by her, but this one’s even more drab than what she’s done in before pffff.
