Well, I don't have anything new to add as everybody has used every variation of the word beautiful in the English language.
To start with, I love the set, vintage Galliano at it's best. The shapes, the techniques, the ideas, the inspiration (I LOVE kimono)....it's all wonderfully done. But I have two complaints. The first is the colors, I'm just not a huge fan of the uber-brights. The real striking pieces are either in various shades of white/grey/black and that positively stunning blood-red tiered gown was to die for. Somehow I wish the other colors were equally rich and not so loud. The second is where the HELL are the bias cut dresses???
Where this collection kind of faulters for me is the overt references. Back in the day, when John referenced any sort of vision of orientalism, it was usually through a vaguely 1930s/40s Shanghai/Kyoto opium fantasy. This time it's much more straight forward. Don't get me wrong, those looks that splice Dior's bar suit with a kimono are fabulously interesting silhouette-wise, but I just kind of feel like maybe there should have been another dimention to the inspiration.
Still, it's wonderfully creative, executed and concieved so all in all I'd say John's 10th anniversary was a good one.
