With My Own Private Idaho as its inspiration, Stuart Vevers’ first men’s collection for Coach evoked a rebellious American spirit. Hefty shearlings mixed with leather jackets and large carryalls that would suit any misplaced River or Keanu figure. Vevers’ first men’s campaign picks up where his men’s Fall 2015 collection left off, giving life to the strong, stylish, and wild-at-heart guys he hopes to dress.
Shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Karl Templer, the images of models Niels Trispel and Ben Allen evoke a strong American spirit that mixes with Vevers’ tough luxury. “The campaign continues the story that started with the women’s collections: classic American wardrobe pieces, mixed with the individuality that comes of a New York attitude, reinterpreted with a new hand for a guy who’s comfortable with his personal style,” Vevers said of the imagery. “These are pieces that you want to wear—classic clothing archetypes reimagined from a luxury perspective, that can be worn together or loved as individual pieces.”
Astute eyes will recognize photos of the Brooklyn Bridge collaged behind some images of the models, though that’s not the only New York iconography present. Trispel and Allen were photographed on Staten Island—yes, the ever-glamorous Staten Island—proving that rebels of all kinds can find something to love in Coach’s new collection. See the campaign here, and stay tuned for Vevers’ upcoming Spring 2016 menswear show on June 13 in London.
