That acquisition didn’t made any sense and Donatella went for them only because they were willing to pay her big big money. Versace wasn’t worth that price.

I think the Qataris can buy Versace. It could in the future make up for the future Acquisition of Valentino by Kering.

They can also buy Jimmy Choo btw.

Yes to Riccardo Tisci being appointed as a CD. They should close Versace Jeans Couture and only focus on Versace mainline and Atelier Versace.

Her last show was her worst in years. She hasn't said anything new in years, they need fresh blood! Fresh meat, Versace 90s sex is now so common they need a new way to tell the story. Also they are infiltrated with celebrities. Celebrities have become so stale and boring we needed to turn to models supermodels a new breed and they can do that because they started the trend. Versace is still one of my favorite brands. They should also bring back couture. Just to show off.

The funny thing about the whole thing is that while the group has been experiencing growth until 2022, it was mostly due to the acqusitions of Jimmy Choo and Versace. Meanwhile, Michael "Cash-Cow" Kors has been on a constant decline since 2017.

Versace has lost its identity for almost a decade now. There has been either too much or not enough going on. In today's oversaturate market, it's not as clear where Versace is headed as a house. So I am not surprised that they would be offloading that label in this sale. Also, I was almost certain that Donatella would have retired two years ago.

Versace as a family label doesn't seem to move in the same ways as, say, Fendi or Missoni or even Prada. I don't know that the sale of Versace would really do anything outside of what is being done.

It felt like that is what was going to happen. I don't know why Riccardo hasn't gone to one of the italian houses yet; I thought he would've been perfect at Gucci, and maybe there is still hope for him to land at Fendi if not Versace after Donatella retires.

But agree with you @GivenchyAddict - Dona' needs to wrap it up. She's plateaued in her career and with the house.
She'll always be part of the legacy as its in her family, and with Allegra's stake (if she still has that larger percentage) but, the label has not moved forward or sparked a sense of newness for quite some time.

I'm going to defend Donatella here and say that she really contributed a lot to the culture of Versace, especially in the 2000s. That said, I think that we can admit that the brand has been in this odd state of self-parody for the best part of a decade.

Since 2015-16, Versace has been a series of dated 80s/90s-inspired designs in lurid colours, styled with hideous platforms and thrown onto a generic Piergiorgio cast who stomp clumsily down a runway to the sound of repetitive electronic music. This lack of design POV really shows when they have to design anything that isn't womenswear: the menswear is just generic oversized silhouettes, their bags are embellished copies from Hermes, Chanel and Gucci, their sneakers look like a copy from Balenciaga.

Looking at current Versace, the whole thing feels like an alternative universe in which Prada Group acquired the brand and decided to appoint Raf Simons as the brand's CD.
