Hoother do you pronounce 'Australia' as 'straya' too? I tend to pronounce it as 'Aus-STRAY-lia'; now that I think about it I realise I didn't really notice whether people pronounce 'Australia' differently depending from state to state..

I say it the same as you. Australia only really has one accent, there are just differing degrees of it. People in capital cities (barring Hobart and Darwin) have weaker accent than country towners. A few foreigners have told me that Perth accents are even weaker than Sydney and Melbourne, but I can't tell the difference.

Wow, yes, when she's talking about the 1920's and then when she's talking about high school, I can definitely hear an American accent. I guess that's what happens when you move to New York!

I'm from Melbourne and I say Auh-STRAY-ya.
