Coming to NYC - Thanksgiving sales

My family were thinking of coming to NYC for the Thanksgiving sales, but I'm finding it hard to get any concrete info on them. Not individual sales, but more general information like:

• When do they start, and when do they end? Are they only 2 day sales?
• Is everything closed on Thanksgiving itself - would we be better off arriving on the Friday, or would Friday afternoon be too late?
• Are the stores mob scenes - Macy's, VS, Abercrombie (for my little bro!)?

We have the option of going before Christmas too, so if anybody has an opinion on whether that would be a nicer time to come over shopping it would be much appreciated

I think you should to go the outlets - sounds like that's what you are looking for. Regular stores won't have anything exciting, they just make it sound that way. Bring boxing gloves.
