having just watched footage of her past collections since the early 80's i can say that she's had a tremendous influence on many designers. her early stuff is still innovative and wearable and scarily contemporary. many pieces are very early hussein chalayan. maybe we have to wait another 25 years to critique this collection.
yes...and she continues to influence others...
she doesn't get it right every time...
but you have to keep pushing forward to innovate...
she does have a certain 'vocabulary' that she seems to use regularly....
tartan is def part of that vocab...

travolta...
can you make copies of said footage or what?!?!...
i am DYING to see this stuff...
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...:flower:...

This collection is VERY Vivienne Westwood-ish, gotta agree with you. Though it isn't anything very creative,I think it's very 90's.
Not my favourite...Not awful either.

draping does not always use more fabric, you could drap a t-shirt if you wanted too. Patterns just simplify and are used to make construction much easier. When you drap you have to concentrate on each piece more.

what made japanese fashion so innovative for the most part was that the designers were not tied down to specific guidelines...in making a coat, traditionally in european fashion you would drap starting at the shoulder. However, the japanese, taught without european traditions were able to drap starting anywhere on the body...hence their innovations...sorry of topic but it flowed.

Saw this in person yesterday - absolutely fantastic when distilled. Thankfully, that particular store did not buy any of that UK referencing stuff, so this was pure Rei genius - very intricately constructed garments in gorgeous fabrics.

what are your fave pices faust?...

there is a cropped, sort of bubble jkt that looks really great ...

It was a jacket that looked something like this (the back was really cool - it was all chopped up, bubbled and put together in this skewed way - absolutely gorgeous).

if any of you have photos of this collection off the catwalk, i'd love to see... i'm really interested to see how this was translated for the stores...

this is what is in the stores, i had a look last week.
It actually feels better in the stores because one see's that the clothes are much lighter than they apear, and the edges of the fabric have been used , wich we can't see in those pics. By the edges i mean the tape on the edge with the type of fabric and the name of the company that weaved the fabric woven into it .

Faust, did this have a hole in the back, with fabric coming out of it like a runched tail sort of thing???

I don't think so - it was more like a wrapping effect, but I don't remember a hole.

^That is beautiful. I mean Rei presented it far too literally on the runway and that did it no favours. However CDG always always has beautiful pieces season after season and sometimes you have to put faith in a house, beyond a collection. Sill, Rei isn't what she once was.
