Comme des Garcons SHIRT

Avant garde or not, fashion is still a business. With more money there are more possibilities plus I'm thinking there are some ppl out there who are happy they can finally afford to buy some CdG pieces...even though alot of it is rather tacky. Still beats those dior homme shirts with the huge D logo imho.

Oh, I don't mean it as a bad thing. We just never think of Rei as being so...business minded. It's important to make profit, it allows for creative freedom in other areas.

the way people attack Haruki on this thread is sad.

especially the mutterlein comment about bad hair.thats way below the belt.

never heard about letting people ask questions and if u know the answer let the teacher answer and not make them feel like a fool.

Haruki 's comment was a question. maybe he knows what hes talking about, maybe he doesnt. But besides putting him on the page with kansas city fashion or whatever city;s fashion, he has a very good discussion subject concerning the delay between big cities fashion movements and theyr echo in smaller, further cities.

im from montreal, canada, and i traveled around the world. and let me tell you some tokyo teenagers are light years ahead of some western designers. lightyears. i dont care if u think this is insulting. You dont wear fashion, fashion wears u, all around the globe. and if u feel u are strong enough to pull something u have never seen before, well my man, or woman. I think u might want to try designing.

anyways, i just feel haruki had a good subject to discuss about, and it turned out to be some ego clash.

especially with mutterlein s comment. that was a real sunshine in the thread.

It is not sad to tell someone to have respect for others. What is sad is that he assumed things about people and places he has no knowledge of.

Rei said in interview that she finds turning clothes into business the hardest part, you could infer from that that she does think about the business side of her work quite a lot.

Agree, Prince:-) I think in the new book about CdG there are quite a lot about the way Comme doing business, Guerrilla, Dover...

"Fun shopping" is always an important part of CdG. The way she designed her shops for example. She is considered by many an excelent fashion manager.

Well I was reading a book and it was quoted from her directly that CDG Shirt was developed mainly so that they could produce a cheaper and more affordable line in Europe and market it towards Europeans and North America to increase profit. I am not saying this is a bad thing, but they do it.

trust me, no ego busting here.

Haruki in my opinion did not have a good subject. Not only did he bring it up in the most tactless anf offensive manner (although I suppose I can't judge)...it's sort of obvious. Not to be mean but if you are going to start a discussion about how geography and community affects they way people dress then you need to A) have some knowledge on the subject and not make irresponsible, unintelligent, and offensive comments. and B) Prepare it in a relevant and more digestable way, otherwise he is just stating the obvious.

It was childish and wrong to make the comment I did about Haruki's hair and I'll admit to that. I will also say that while I think it is still awful I understand his fondness for it and attribute it to his taste. I respect his tastes and his own aesthetic. Much in the same way Alexn did not like CDG Shirt, it wasn't his tastes....

I won't however attribute it to a lack of sophistication or my own superiority.

the jacket in the second to last image runner posted....mmmmmm

in regards to haruki's question, it's simply a matter of exposure. sure those areas may be on the cutting edge, but sophisication doesn't equal open mindedness or creativity. i've lived in london and the east coast, and now i live in minnesota. i find minnesotans may be seemingly unsophisticated, but they are probably more inherently creative and abstract thinking than people i have met in those other cities. creativity, and insight is born from necessity, if critical thought is stifled, more reason to break free and create different systems of thinking (creativity) and although there may be very 'unfashionable' people in the midwest, there are also people who are audacious because the root of their taste is completely uncontrived.

I am not sure how familiar you are with Kansas City but it is an artistically and commercially wealthy city with some of the best examples in progressive design in everything from architecture to product design. Fashion is not excluded. If you call Kansas City rural then it makes me think you have no idea what you are talking about.
:woot: I somehow missed this the last time I perused this thread. So true. :flower:

^ this also applies to minneapolis, which i find to be one of the most inspiring, artistically stimulating cities i have ever been to

I agree.

Some of the things posted I liked.

i like haruki's hair. it is like a cloud around his head. imagine his view - he must always feel like he is looking out of the window of an airplane.

The CdG Shirt ad. in iD shows clothes:-)

It looks like "normal" ad. 3 or 4 boys wear blue stripes shirts. One even pushes the collar off his neck, like the shirt is not very comfy:-P

When i saw the first pictures

Some of it is just so- i don't know. I just hate seeing expensive high end things that you could purchase for much cheaper somewhere else. I'm just talking about the look of some of the things though (tee shirts, polos), not their quality. I like to see some creativity on the runway. :p You know, color...

I love some of the jackets and sweaters though.

I love this shirt because the sleeve with the stripes remind me of traditional Korean clothing that I used to always wear for New Years and special occasions.
