Condé Nast Announces Launch of Vogue Philippines for September 2022

Ah, yes, yet another Vogue edition that would be a second-rate Vogue that nobody cares about. I'd be glad to see Heart Evangelista on the cover, but can't think of too many cover subjects before it becomes a Groundhog Day.
I hope next time we'd just see Conde Nast announces the conversion of all Vogues into Vogue South America, Vogue North America, Vogue Europe, Vogue Asia, leaves Vogue Australia, and Vogue Africa. And at that, instead of having new models every second and trying to scourge for the "creative talent" (in brackets, because there is no talent there except Carlijn Jacobs and Leslie Zhang). I'd gladly see an abnormal concentration of Zhang, Jacobs, Meisel, M&M, I&V, McDean and Teller.

Of course, not only less useless editions would save us paper, costs, logistic resources, nerves and tons of other things, it would give a new opportunity to shine for the indie magazines. True indie magazines, not a rich Parsons or Central Saint Martins graduate calling friends together and saying "Let's launch Lula magazine... or maybe let's call it NO TOFU?! Or how about TEETH? Or... or... Ponystep! Maybe Oyster Magazine?!". Still don't understand who needs that at all, even Another or Dazed when they began truly challenged it in their first couple of months/years. Guess it was hard to "cancel" back then.

This is such great news! I am from the Philippines and I have been waiting for this to happen since I got into the world of fashion and started collecting Vogue. I remember telling myself back then that once our country launches its own Vogue, I would do whatever it takes to be part of the editorial team. I was like 16 or 17 at the time.

honestly who the f*ck cares?

we all know it’s gonna be closed after one year.

So they are launching new Vogue every year now?

How's the print media landscape in Philippines? Is it still thriving?

In my country (in SEA too) the print industry is Dying with capital D. I think only 2 fashion magazines left that is still doing print issue (one doing 6 issues per year and another doing 8 issues per year) with around or less than 20 pages of advertisement in each issue..

But seriously, who needs another British Vogue reprint edition? Had this happened two years ago, sure, why not? But after they so stupidly changed the way their magazines function this edition will be nothing more but a tragic waste of paper. So much for the sustainability cause.

I'm Filipino and this is honestly unexpected lol. But I am still excited tho ❤️

I hope they use actual Filipino celebs and not some Hollywood star that people here barely know

Much as I like the idea of Vogue Philippines, this feels a little too late for me. The prestige of the brand already died.

I’m not excited for it as well. Vogue editions lost their individuality and originality and has become very formulaic. Either this will look like US Vogue, UK Vogue, the former glory days of Vogue Paris/Italia, or something like what Vogue Portugal/Greece produce these days.

We’re at the last leg of the brand. Eventually this will just be shifted to a regional edition so what even is the point. If Preview Magazine shut down and has gone digital, I don’t see hope for the magazine industry here.

This will just give Anne Curtis, Heart Evangelista, Pia Wurtzbach, Catriona Gray, Vice Ganda and the rest of all the repetitive PH cover stars a Vogue magazine cover in their respective repertoire. And this is published by Mega Publishing Group, the publishing company that gave Anne Curtis a cover every year (sometimes twice a year).

Well, Conde Nast needs it for the licensing money of course, that's all they care about....forget about fashion or anything related...and their "causes" it's just an strategic pose....

Some things I'd like to see in this particular Vogue edition.
  • Pauline Juan to lead this team. She did a tremendous job with Preview Magazine and I know that her vision will play a huge part in making this magazine have its strong identity. Sadly, I have a huge feeling that Mega Magazine's
Peewee Reyes-Isidro will be assigned as its editor-in-chief. She elevated Mega Magazine during her tenure, but I don't see her as innovative as Pauline (or Isabelle "Isha" Andaya-Valles).
  • International models and personalities on its covers. While we might see Liza Soberano, Catriona Gray, and Nadine Lustre appear on its covers, I'd still prefer if the editorial team would book actual models or international celebrities for their print issues since this is an international title. What I love about Danyl Geneciran's L'Officiel Philippines is the fact that he can manage to make his magazine fashion-forward yet hip to the mass. Though I despise their magazine's customer service for not answering my emails.
  • BJ Pascual, Charisma Lico, and Shaira Luna's works. These photographers made Preview Magazine's latter years gor-geous and I hope that their skills could contribute to this magazine's upcoming issues. One MEGA Group, Vogue Philippines's publishing house, tends to overrate Mr. Dookie Ducay whose works are very underwhelming if you ask me. He was the reason why I stopped buying Mega's recent issues.

Pauline Juan came to my mind as well for the EIC post. Her tenure at Preview was so remarkable especially the late 00s. Or I could see Carla Sibal (Former MEGA EIC) leading this.

And yes to international models and personalities on its covers!

Much as I love Pauline Juan, Mega Magazine will keep this in house. It could be Carla Sibal although she's based in London I think. But this could be to her advantage since she could be oriented by Edward himself (don't they do this? you get a series of meetings with the top execs).

Pauline Juan and Carla Sibal days were the height of the fashion magazine industry for me. The Isabelle Daza, Kim Chiu, and Louis Vuitton Preview Covers. The 16th Anniversary Mega covers. And who will forget the scandal that followed the Katrina Halili Mega cover with her elongated fingers? Ahh those were the days.

The current Preview team is a no for me, sorry. If anyone of them set foot on Vogue, I can see Vogue PH being a local version of Vogue Portugal. Unconventional image + 1 word text.

Since this is Mega, it will be commercial as hell. "Maymay Entrata comes of age", "Vogue x Vice", "The Art Issue with Heart Evangelista" +++++

It really could be Peewee. This is a major promotion for her. Not only did she elevate Mega, but she also ushered Mega through the pandemic. Although I hope she ditches Mega's staple art director (forgot his name).

It just dawned on me, what if they'll close Mega / incorporate it with Vogue? Same team.

Now it kinda makes sense why MEGA's new logo looked like Vogue when it was first introduced.

Yes! You read my mind, girl. Their days as EIC were the golden years of Preview and MEGA. Add the Preview June 2008 cover with all the girls decked out in Prada S/S 2008 to these iconic moments.

I did some research and Carla Sibal is indeed based in London now. She's currently the Director for UK Sales and Marketing Services of Ccercle Magazine. Hope One Mega offers the EIC post to her given her credentials. Or Does Conde Nast have a say to these kind of things as well?

And please, no Maymay Entrata, Vice Ganda and the likes on the cover.

I'm actually excited for this. Let's hope they have their own identity and are able to put something different to the table.

I don't see it becoming that, for one thing its being licensed out, this is not wholly a Conde Nast operation like what has lead to Vogue France being a bunch of reprints. I'm not sure what is the case for Vogue Scandinavia, but i think we just gotta wait and see what happens. Vogue Scandinavia as far as I know isnt a bunch of reprints.

Always a wonderful to read news of a new fashion title coming to fruition but given the state of Vogue at the moment, I find myself only being able to be excited for the people of the Philippines receiving their own edition of Vogue, as opposed to the actual thought of Vogue Philippines.

Scandinavia, Portugal and Czechoslovakia are full of original content, fortunately.
