Daniel Craig set to play the fool
007 star Daniel Craig has signed up to play a washed-up British Hollywood actor.
Craig, who won rave reviews for his turn as Bond in Casino Royale, has been cast in Flashbacks of a Fool.
The movie, announced at the Cannes Film Festival, also features British stars Helen McCrory, Olivia Williams and Emilia Fox.
Craig, 39, who is more in demand in Hollywood then ever before, plays a star in his 40s whose allure is starting to fade.
He comes back to Britain for a funeral following the death of his best friend from his childhood in the English seaside.
The experience sparks flashbacks of his younger years, and of a tragedy which forced him to look for a new life in the US.
Filming begins on the movie, directed by Baillie Walsh, later this month in South Africa and London.

As reported earlier in the week, Daniel Craig has signed up to play the lead in a true story about the Polish Resistance during the Second World War.

CHUD points out today that Defiance may have been chosen over another project.

"...talk all over Hollywood today is that Craig is off Blindness, Meirelles's adaptation of Jose Saramago's brainy science-fiction novel about an unnamed city being plunged into chaos by a white blindness epidemic. The book is a complex depiction of societal collapse (Devin aptly referred to it in his '06 news item as "George Romero with glaucoma instead of zombies"), and is really more about (very nihilistic) ideas than narrative, which is why many were heartened that a smart, visually gifted filmmaker like Meirelles attached himself to the project. Add Craig and Julianne Moore to that equation and it sounded like the Children of Men of 2008."

"Subtract Craig, and Meirelles might as well start lobbying for Clive Owen, because there aren't too many other bankable leads who can entice audiences to try something outside of their comfort zone. (Actually, Craig hasn't proven that he's a draw outside of the Bond franchise; The Invasion will be the heat check - i.e. unless Warner Brothers dumps the troubled picture.) In Meirelles's favor is the fact that he's very popular with actors after The Constant Gardener, but he needs to get this movie going soon before his artistic cachet diminishes."

Filming of the 22nd James Bond film is scheduled for January 2008, for a release on November 7th 2008

I finally found the time to watch Casino Royale last night - superb!

A sweating buckets (but clean-shaven!) Daniel Craig gets some fresh air outside on the porch of his ultra-posh hotel on Friday in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Bond movie star has been in town with girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell for the past week (and will be for the coming month) to executive produce and star in Flashbacks of a Fool. He was also spotted shooting scenes for Fool at Bantry Bay on Tuesday.
Craig, 39, will play a pleasure-seeking actor whose Hollywood career starts to nosedive in his 40s. The death of his best friend from his English childhood causes him to journey back home for the funeral, and prompts flashbacks to his teenage experiences - including the tragedy that forced him to flee to the United States and a new life.

Thanks for the info and pics, everyone! :flower:

Who's the little girl in post #361? Is she the daughter of the guy on the left of the pic?

James Bond star Daniel Craig looks dressed to kill on an outing in Los Angeles, California. Wearing a suit jacket and waistcoat, almost a carbon copy of the outfit 007 alumni Sean Connery made famous, the Casino Royale star kept it cool with a straw Fedora hat and aviators as he ran errands and attended some business meetings around the city. He was later seen out with his producer girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell. An onlooker said: “He probably ordered a Martini - shaken, not stirred - for lunch.”
