Daphne Groeneveld Gets Cheeky on The Daily Summer By Eddie Roche | August 3, 2017 Pin It
What could be more delicious than Daphne Groeneveld all dolled up in this summer’s cheekiest luxuries? Sit back and drink in the sizzling Dutch beauty.
Why did you want to work with [photographer] Carin Backoff?
We knew each other from shows—we were backstage together. Her photography is beautiful and strong. I love what she does, so I was really excited about this shoot.
What was it like working with her?
Very chill! The whole vibe on set was so nice, and she works quickly, so that makes my job easy.
What have you been up to this summer?
I visited my hometown in Holland, and it was an amazing trip. I love going home and spending time with my friends and family.
What were your summers like growing up?
My parents used to drive to Italy every summer. We would go camping there for a week or two. I’m in love with the country! I’ve been to so many places in Italy.
Where do you stay in the Hamptons?
East Hampton and Sag Harbor. My favorite is Sag, because I love spending the day relaxing on the beach and paddleboarding.
What are your passions outside of modeling?
Nutrition is a passion—reading about health is fascinating. I also love discovering new hot spots and watching documentaries about food.
What’s your exercise routine?
I work out five times a week. I like running outside but also like to lift weights in the gym. For classes, I’ll go to SLT, Rumble, SoulCycle, or take Pilates.
Your first interview with The Daily was published in 2011. A lot has happened to you since then. What would you tell that girl today if you could?
I would tell her to trust herself! The industry can be tough when you’re young, because jobs can get canceled at the last minute. I used to take it personally, but it’s really not personal, and that takes time to understand.
You’ve been on countless magazine covers. What do you do with them?
My dad collects them, which is super cute. I’ll buy them all and bring them back to Amsterdam.
Who are your closest model friends?
The Dutchies! Maud [Welzen], Sanne [Vloet], Julia [van Os]. We all used to live in the same building, which was great. We became very close because of that.
You’ve often said that Natasha Poly and Lara Stone have been major influences. Why have they been so important to you?
They are both iconic-looking and diverse—they can go from super sexy to very edgy.
Do you still want to open a hotel someday?
I’d love to! I want it to be a small boutique hotel on the beach…but I’m not sure where yet!
Where did you and [boyfriend] Justin Hopwood meet?
I’ve known him for a while because he models as well. We met through mutual friends.
What are your goals now?
To keep on working very hard…and take more holidays!
