'Most stylish woman alive' Daphne Guinness auctions £60,000 of designer items at knockdown prices for charity
When heiress Daphne Guinness had a spring-clean of her wardrobe she filled more than a few bags for the charity shop. In fact it is taking more than three hours to auction the designer pieces she no longer wants.
The 260 lots are being sold today in aid of Womankind, a charity offering training and education to women in developing countries. It is estimated the sale will raise about £60,000.
A spokeswoman for Guinness, who has been a model, artist and fashion designer, said: "Like girls do, she bought things she thought she would wear but some got lost at the back of her closet and were never worn while others, like her favourite Chanel suits, she wore over and over.
"She has been struggling to say goodbye to everything but she knows it's for a good cause Womankind does great work."
Kerry Taylor of fashion auctioneers Kerry Taylor Auctions, which helped set up the event with eBay, said: "Anyone purchasing pieces in this sale will be able to pick up top designer-wear at a fraction of the original purchase cost. Tom Ford believes Daphne to be one of, if not, the most stylish woman living and I would tend to agree."
