^ Yeah, I agree...she crosses the line into costume when she does the hair and makeup so severe with an already severe outfit... :(

That outfit was horrific :ninja:

I adore Daphne's OTT style, and I admire her for her extravagance and her risks.

However, I do think there gets to a point where it's just a plain mess - and that outfit just screams pure fashion victim to me. Its almost as if she clicked through style.com - couture - and thought to herself now what would be the IT items that are likely to shock? And then just jumbled them together.

That to me is showing little of either style or taste, imo she's become enamoured of her own myth (as spun by the media), and has become a parody of herself.

ETA: I didn't read this post until after I had just written the above,

I hear ya! I was just thinking that her aesthetic has become so extreme, it's like she's gotten all this recognition for her look and so she's thought "how far can I go with this" and now she looks like someone at a Halloween party dressed as Daphne Guinness. :(

I think this is it exactly, she's become a caricature. Hence the scarecrow hair and makeup.

The outfit I think is amazing of course, and Daphne can pull it off pretty well because you expect her to wear such things. But the hair and makeup are terrible and I really don't like the belt, the dress had such shape on the runway why would you want to suppress it?

Jesus, you know things are a bit OTT when Amanda Lepore doesn't even warrant a comment! Love the McQueen, hate the hair and make-up and truly HATE those contacts.

I love her with her hair loose in the Vogue Russia article. Would like to see her do that in "real life" not just editorial.

^ My God- looks like the Drag Queen Olympics in the East Village...

She looks wonderful, think she could have stood to lose either the belt or the heavy neckline, but otherwise its a nice departure from her simple (but always wonderful) black white and grey!

I love her for just being herself and doing her own over the top thing. The McQueen is beautiful but ridiculous - she actually did outdo Amanda Lepore. I never thought anyone could do such a thing.

It's an utterly gorgeous dress, especially on her being so tiny. I wish she didn't wear the bizarro shoes though, they are completely unflattering and look like water baloons from the front.

I think she likes to switch it up for her own fun, not because of what she represents to others.

The contacts are silly, I agree with that.

she must pretty short because those shoes are 12 inches tall and shes not really towering over people like I thought she would be

I love that McQueen on her but she should have toned down the hair and make-up, no? It's also strange that her shoes are nude; meaning she probably comissioned McQueen's atelier to make those shoes.

I think she might've just gotten an existing pair that were not yet embroidered.. but anything goes in the land of DG:blink:

She's been looking so unwell recently. Not only in terms of outfits, although I suppose if she's going through a difficult period of her life it's logical that her outfits are influenced by this (therefore, as many have noticed, she resembles a caricature of herself). Also, that quote about her not expecting to live for much longer and love being the only thing worth aiming for really spoke to me and frankly I'm a bit worried for her. I don't want her to end up like Isabella Blow.

I intensely dislike the last look (and her general recent attitude) because what made her great to me was how natural she was in her rapport with the most rarefied forms of fashion.
I remember in the Secrets of Haute Couture documentary she described a gorgeous couture outfit she was wearing and added without any conceit or arrogance that it was 'nothing special, really', as if wearing extraordinary outfits was as much part of life as taking a bath.

This candid attitude, this sense of effortlessness, this innocence if you will has completely disappeared from her. She is now putting on a show and trying nearly as hard as Victoria Beckham (a comparison it really pains me to make).
The last look looks so forced, because it has that straight out of runway vibe, instead of the 'Oh, I'm just running errants' vibe she used to have.
Luxx says she is being herself, well, while I don't know her, it seems to be she has been very unlike herself, and I agree with EvaIntl that the new Daphne looks unwell and quite sad.

OK, rant over.

On a strickty aesthetic point of view, that dress and belt combo is amazingly gorgeous.

^ I so agree...Funny how many of us have picked up the same vibe from her recently...and I'm not comfortable with it, either...:(

Boomer, it looks like it's time to post some more vintage Daphne snaps... I think we all need a pick-me-up.

I was thinking the same thing... ;)
