I loved Cronenberg's last couple of offerings (History of Violence and Eastern Promises) but despite the names involved, this looks so unappealing to me.

Cronenberg lost me when he hired Robert Pattinson most recently. I'm probably being prejudiced. I abhor the attention these dimly talented Twi-kids get. But I really like this. It's got the Fass AND Viggo. B) So there. Not sure about Knightley's accent though...

I've only seen a 20 minute snip of it but it looks amazing. I didn't see a problem with Keira's accent at all, I don't think the trailer really does her enough justice. Of course, for some reason Keira always seems to manage to attract an abnormal amount of loathing/slagging off from people even when it's rarely justified so I'm sure when this movie comes out, journalists etc will have a field day pulling her to pieces.

Even if it happens to be bad the cast is brilliant so I will definitely go to see it. As for Keira Knightley, as weird as it seems I feel like her talent in underrated.

I have to agree with this and a lot of it seems to come from critics and journalist in England too. I'm looking forward to it, seems like an interesting story and with DC behind it, it should definitely not be straightforward.

Why would an entire collective body of journalists/critics have it out for someone they've never even met? I mean, I guess I could understand the argument--which I've heard several times--about women having some "strange hate" for Knightley (even if I don't agree with it), jealousy is at least given as the explanation. There's no explanation as to why a group of men would just slag her off for the fun of it. No one just "attracts" loathing/criticism for no reason. I mean, some people just don't find her to be a great actress. But didn't she get pretty good reviews for Children's Hour?

I've posted this in Keira's thread already but A Dangerous Method will be having a gala screening at New York Film Festival as well. That's three festivals in short succession, they are more than gunning for Awards season.

The movie was just shown at The Venice Film Festival. The main talking part is Keira's performance. Some love it while others don't. The movie it self seems to have gotten good reviews but it's very tame compared to some of David's other work. The majority of the reviews should start when the movie is released but we should get quite a few now since it's going to be shown at a few festivals. Here's one:

After seeing the trailer, this crossed my mind:

2 renown movie directors (Aronofsky/ Cronenberg), directing one of the Hollywood "twins" in a very demanding role (Natalie Portman/ Keira Knightley), doing a movie that deal with mental troubles, with some quite explicit sex scenes, each movie with a part for Vincent Cassel… Keira might be the one getting the Oscar this year !

(>of course, the 2 movies are very very different, I was just simplifying a lot to make it more funny... but there are indeed some broad similarities...)

Cannot wait to see this movie. In my Psychology class we've talked about the two men so I'm interested in seeing how they are portrayed in the film. Also, the cast is great so I have high hopes for this movie. Keira is certainly underrated, she's one of those stars who get publicity but isn't always acknowledged for her talent. And she is quite talented.

This movie was rather disappointing considering the casting. Fassbender and Mortensen do a great job looking the part but aren't given much to work with scriptwise other than a lot of psychological banter. Keira was awful. She spent the first half of the movie badly overacting and the remainder of the film trying to find a proper Russian accent. It took me a while to figure out that she was aiming for Russian.
