NEXT ACT: At a party Saturday night to launch the Rizzoli tome “David Gandy by Dolce & Gabbana,” the model widely known for basking in the sun in tiny trunks posed for photos with ladies clamoring for his attention, and embraced the designers who catapulted his career into stardom.
Like the homonymous David by Michelangelo, Gandy statuesquely bares all in the book, which also catalogs the model’s account of how his relationship began with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. “When casting the Light Blue (fragrance campaign), Domenico and Stefano said they didn’t know my name; they just said they wanted the guy who shot the clothing campaign in the glasses,” the book reads. At the party, Gabbana said Gandy has become part of the family. “David had that beauty that Dolce and Gabbana wanted to express. He’s English but it’s like he’s Italian,” Gabbana said with a shrug. With his newfound fame and fortune, Gandy said he rewarded himself a vintage Sixties Mercedes Benz. He’s also been mulling the idea of making a serious foray into acting. “I have invested a lot of time thinking about it, but I haven’t been offered anything that really interests me yet,” Gandy added.
Earlier in the day, after a few shirtless strolls down the Dolce runway, the model played the movie star, captured by paparazzi as he arrived on a vintage Triumph motorcycle for an appearance at La Rinascente. - WWD
