The covershot of all the girls doing their best 80s Benetton x Candie's vibe is actually the best shot in the entire story (even if it looks like there's clearly no rapport and they wouldn’t acknowledge each other IRL…).
Justin French’s “Downtown Darling” is the strongest shoot, with it’s very Crooklyn attitude and energy. Unfortunate that it’s only 6 pages. But the best story by far is Tenzing’s “Pure Imagination”. The 6yo has more natural talent for composition, storytelling and extracting energy and joy from his cast than all these overhyped people shooting for Vogue. If only he were given a full designer wardrobe to pull from, this little boy would leave them all in the dust eating dirt.
These tributes to Virgil are getting out of hand. It’s unfortunate he passed but the hype is so aggressive, so relentless to force this imprint that’s he’s some sort of visionary, revolutionary trailblazer. Sheesh: He was no doubt, an impressive businessman-- but as a designer, he’s very questionable and mediocre at best. Karl and Azzedine never received this much tribute upon their passing, and they were true Greats. If it’s strictly about race, then there are others who’ve achieved and created a much stronger legacy than he ever did. And they achieved it strictly through talent without identity politics; Joe Casely-Hayford comes to mind, who passed in 2019. (But I get it, SM fame and its standards geared at 12yo. Even Virgil obsessed that he’s always designing for his 17yo self.)
