Designers and Their Muses

mid-20th century art/design for Marni ? :)
that's for seasons prior to ss 07

although i think Alberto Burri's works inspired a print for that collection

i think lara stone has a certain museness for givenchy and prada as well...
jennifer connely for balenciaga as well as hilary rhoda

Carine Roitfield to Tom Ford.

If I can remember correctly, Christopher Kane is inspired by Carine Roitfield I believe I read somewhere. Carine makes for such a great muse! ^_^

Definitely late Isabella Blow for McQueen I would say.

Mariacarla to Tisci

Sasha P to Miuccia

I think Karl has a bunch - Gemma, Irina, Snejana....

And I also think Snejana to Dolce & Gabbana

Karl also loved Charlott Cordes and Luca Gadjus.
Speaking of Luca, I think Miuccia liked her as well

oh and isn't there this musician who walks for this designer?
the girl looks bad and is very very very edgy looking.

was it Hervé Leger?

I dunno, perhaps I just have a very different view of what a muse is. To me, there's a fine line between being inspired by someone's style or persona and being a muse. Muses are longstanding creative and emotional relationships. There's this strange Pygmalion aspect to it, because when you think about it, the only designers with muses are men, and as the names mentioned so far have proven they're gay men.

It's like, if I could create the perfect woman, who would it be. That's the definition of what a muse is, someone who embodies that designer's vision. It's different than taking Amy Winehouse's beehive for a show and snapping a few publicity shots with her.

I guess that's why I don't see a lot of the names mentioned falling into the muse category.

Gianni and Donatella though, that's what I think of when I think of a muse to a creative person.

Great post! ^_^:flower:

Well then after reading this, Irina Lazareanu is definitely the muse for Nicolas Ghesquiere and Karl Lagerfeld. She knew both of them for a long time before she hit it big; she was a fit model for Balenciaga and her and Nicolas and great friends.

Pete Doherty and David Bowie were the most obvious and continuous muses for Hedi Slimane... not a big surprise for sure... as is Patti Smith to Ann Demeulemeester :innocent:

I think so too

My choice was something not human for Marni :ninja:
inanimate objects like collections of fabrics
I guess it's not really a muse, more like inspiration

But for women using women
I think Prada's choices in "faces for Prada" .. they are all chosen to personify that specific look of the times she is after
Daria Werbowy and then Sasha Pivovarova
Daria so lady-like
Sasha some other mood...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Karl Lagerfeld used to call Lady Amanda Harlech his "muse." Then again, Karl throws the word muse around like tweed's going out of style. :innocent:

He's said it about Princess Caroline too.

Is anyone els bothered when the designer seems to use like a " cheesy " actress . To me that is just pathetic to call a ( flavor of the month) a muse. When a great model, or a genuine actress or even like a figure from the past is a muse it seems much more relevant.

That's true, everytime i watch fashion file/television, they always credit her as a "muse"...
