Diane von Furstenberg: Diane von Furstenberg knows a thing or two about harnessing the power of femininity. In a breezy ode to nature and the original godmother of sizzle, Eve, von Furstenberg’s spring show started with a nod to the origins of her own house: a slinky wrap dress printed with a giant serpent hugging its curves. From there, things evolved rather quickly. An Eighties undercurrent surfaced in off-the-shoulder dresses and pert miniskirts, goddess gowns cinched with bejeweled harnesses and dresses done in gold-glazed python print. But the big news is that von Furstenberg has majorly loosened up her silhouette with boxy minidresses, tulip skirts and lantern dresses that looked utterly up-to-date. These were done in bold, graphic prints — ginkgo leaves, frog spots, abstract butterflies — that played along with the back-to-the-garden idea.
As fun and evocative as her theme was, however, von Furstenberg’s real focus was making a slew of great clothes for young and not-so-young women to wear. Take an indigo dress spliced together from banded crochet or a flirty dress buzzing with printed bumblebees, for example. As Eve herself knew oh so long ago, every seduction starts with charm.
