Dior Gaucho

Yes but i think Voodoo Mary's is a medium and the pic on the left is the large. Maybe that explains the difference.

I have been pretty much been a lurker on this thread-first saw pictures of the gaucho on style.com, they didn't appeal to me then and I thought that was pretty much it.

However, I saw them IRL for the first time today at the Dior boutique.
I have to admit that the distressed leather, the slouchy nonchalant air of the gauchos together with the charms all conspired to transform it into an appealing package to me.
I must admit that this is the first Dior bag to appeal to me.

I like the tote, while I think the medium shoulder is a good value as compared to the double saddle.
Maybe it's because I am really paying attention to this bag for the first time, but I find each colour that I saw in the store (white, green and red) appealing to me in their own way.

However, I am a little hesitant due to the "trendiness" of this bag-I am uncertain about its longevity...
Thoughts from owners of the gaucho..do you see yourself carrying this for a long time?

I do. I think it all depends on what you like as opposed to the trend factor.
If you had to pic a color which one would you say you liked best?

^ I was thinking maybe becuase no dior handbags except for the guacho have gotten so big, so they haven't tried as hard on previous bags?

I don't agree, remember the dior girly boston bag a few years back? The saddle bags were/are also often faked, but I agree that I have never seen a good saddle bag fake. I don't think it's because dior handbags haven't been big, because some have, but more because dior bags tend to be a bit peculiar and the fakers don't take the time to correct the obvious mistakes (like cutting the "dior" in half on the girly boston bags, mismatching the monograms and lets not forget the satin dustbags with the red font etc.)

The gaucho is growing on me, but for some reason the fact that the fakes are getting so good turns me off the bag a bit.

this is really odd... the gaucho photos on dior.com show the straps that adjust using the metal poppers, but the gauchos on eluxury have straps that adjust with a buckle... it doesn't add up... the only feasible explanation i can come up with is that the bags used in the press photos/catwalk at dior had that element of the design but it was later changed for the commercial versions... and i can see why, the poppers might come open! a buckle fastening is much more sturdy.

knowing there are good fakes always turns me off a bag. it's just not as exciting to carry if you know someone has a $100 knock off that looks very close to yours.

yeah... i was right... ^_^ ... the gaucho was originally supposed to have straps that adjust using the poppers, but it was changed to a buckle for the commercial version... the gauchos on the winter 06 catwalk also reflect this change:

have you noticed the new 'crackle' leather gauchos coming out for winter? i think it's quite cool... reminds me of a snake shedding its skin ... :P ... but all that excess peeling would eventually just totally come off, wouldn't it??

PrincessImp - I agree with you ... when the gauchos first came out, the design didn't appeal to me as well. However, having seen them on other people, it looks very edgy and chic. As a result, I have purchased a medium gaucho in brown/olive from someone in another forum. I am very excited to see it IRL ... since here, it's still on waitlist. I will post pics when I receive it.

I do realize that there are very good fake versions of this bag, but I like knowing that my bag is authentic and that if anything goes wrong with it, I can take to the boutique to have it repaired. One of the posters in that other thread was complaining on the workmanship on her $200 fake (a piece fell off after she used once) and decided to not buy fakes again.

I heard the indigo version for fall is already out...there will be black too...I wonder what kind of indigo/blue would it be...

The dior in Chevy Chase, MD called me - they have the indigo tote (or they did on Thursday).

isn't that pic velvet, not leather?
hmm.. i can't really tell... maybe? ... to me, it looks like leather with a crackled coating over it.

It is very pretty, but I preffer the red.. Thanks for the pic foxie :flower: Is this pre fall already? When does pre fall usually come out?

Those who own these bags, how thick is the leather, what is it comparable to?

I agree with you eskimo it is indeed very turn me off too. But I don't agree that the fake look really good though the leather looks different.
I don't understand why someone has a fake bag and post it in the real thread like this thread also did the same thing in stam thread and in fendi thread as well.

She didn't post it, I did... I saw the post in the lush and ioffer thread and posted the link here becuase I thought it was a surprisingly good fake.

Oh My apologies! I thought it happened the same way again like other two threads.
