Dirk Bikkembergs Mens S/S 08 Milan

I've never liked him either but I've read dithyrambic critiques about his early stuff

(about the Antwerp Six thing, though, who wears Walter van Beirendonck :innocent:? Who even knows who Marina Yee is ? I guess only Ann and Dries are successful, maybe along with Walter - I don't like him though)

and don't forget dirk van saene!;)
he is still so utterly quiet....

well,i love what walter is doing these days and for me at least even he had something to say throughout his career.....at least he had ideas. i don't know if bikkembergs really had that.....he was always good at his craft but nothing he did ever stood out in such a dynamical manner as his five peers. but we digress....:D

yeah, agree we have digressed, but i still would rather hear scott talking about the belgian designers that to see dirk's work. This latest addition is indeed quite horrid. it somehow reminds me of p*rn stars:flower:

i was wondering if you could share with us why the belgian designers are so 'gifted', given the country is really small, and rather industrial in its economy? off hand i could list these belgian designers that i really like, apart from those that was mentioned
raf simons, ann demeulemeester, veronique branquinho,
martin margiela, olivier theyskens, kris van assche, wim neels.

terrible models, but somehow refreshing...?

i like most of the clothes.

from all the things i've seen scott speak about, it's that there is integrity and personality/soul in the work of the Belgians (namely the ones who studied at Antwerp Academy)--they can never be sell-outs
i do notice particularly with Dries and Demeulemeester, there is a really personal style.. their own vision of things, something you don't always see in other designers. I don't know the rest of them very well.. but I think Beirendonck and Bernard Wilhelm are another of those 'visionaries'
I've noticed though, with Bikkembergs, maybe "sports" is the main theme for him and his work.. I saw a mat he designed in the "Designers go Home" thread and it also has that athletic feel. It has his name as a patterned logo print too, just like in this clothing collection, and the mat looks just like what you use in gymnastics and yoga, I think...
