DKNY F/W 14.15 New York

everything about this is forced, from the casting to the styling. None of this feels natural

My exact sentiment. It's so gimmicky. Was DKNY always a punk-wanna-be? The last few seasons it was very clean and sophisticated. Now this?

I agree. It's especially sad after that beautiful last collection.

I actually liked the show itself, the way it began with that little film of young New Yorkers, how they'd arrived in the the city, why, what their hopes and dreams were. For me, it was a nice link with the brand DKNY.

That said, I agree with you all that the collection itself doesn't wow - although there are some trainers, coats and a dress or 2 that I wouldn't mind owning.

Like the casting, clothes and the streetvibe. This is how Kanye should have done it once in the time.

Ah, looks as though the video preceding the collection is very important to view before making a comment about cohesion. Different kids, different backgrounds, and different interests but they all wear DKNY? I quite like it when I look at it through that lens.

Not feeling the footwear or a bit of those menswear pieces to be honest.

Let's be honest, the only people that covet the DKNY brand are 14-year-old girls living in the suburbs who also like Coach and Guess also, and shop for all these brands at their local factory outlet stores.

I adore Donna Karan and still feel she's the best thing in NY fashion week-- even after all these years, but DKNY has always seemed like a thorn on her mainline label, to me. And I don't think its convincing anyone even with the sleek and smart marketing that its a brand worthy of style-- high fashion or street fashion. Even streetstyle bloggers aren't going to take the bait that easily just because you featured a street-sauvy cast.

I don't agree with you...

The last few DKNY collections made me, a nearly 30-year-old women who works in fashion, want to wear clothes from this label.

This individual collection, not so much.

But still, this isn't the licensed DKNY logo'd t-shirts and streetwear-esque type of thing you would find at Macy's back in the day (or do they still sell that stuff?)

I disagree too.

While this collection is not one of the better ones, I like some aspects of the DKNY line - which is clearly demarcated from her mainline - and as I already mentioned I'd wear at least a coat or two from this collection.

And I am far from a 14 year old living in the suburbs. LOL!

^^the middle section of the collection is a total mess, but I agree with Not Plain Jane, I would absolutely wear some of those coats (the blue houndstooth and the blue plaid stood out for me especially)

^^^ Ok, fair enough, ladies. And I too, would wear a handful of the non-descript suits.

But do you actively seek out "DKNY" when shopping? The thing is, for me, every single label and their diffusion line will have something-- a few pieces, even a handful that are attractive, even if I may not identify, or admire the label. I've never been a fan of DSquared2, but I own a few items from them-- because, I liked the design before I saw the label, and tried it on... and along with the sale price, really liked the fit, and bought it. Doesn't mean I'm a fan of the label or their image. If I were sent to Versace for a shopping spree-- a label I've always never liked or identified with, the men's even more so, I'm certain I will find at least a few pieces that would suit me.

DKNY is just not a label held in high regard and coveted by the types that they have specifically representing the brand here in this show. So I don't think all the clever, and style-warping marketing is going to convince label-hungry and status-chasing streeters that this is where it's at with its forced, and manufactured edge. So.. is this a brand that's associated with leading fashion-- or even street, as they're trying to convince us? This is where the impressionable, 14-year-old girl from the suburbs come in...
