Donatella Versace - Chief Brand Ambassador of Versace

Always been a Donatella Versace fan, and it's certainly a sad moment to see her leave Versace as creative director. It's almost unfathomable to imagine Versace without Donatella at the helm. She IS Versace. Nevertheless, I'm interested to see what Dario Vitale will do.

I don't know where to stand on this and what would've been the future of Versace if she continued (e.g. if it wasn't to completely shutter with her leaving).
Everyone adores Donatella as an icon and representation of all things positive for women in fashion, proudly standing by the LGBT community, being a strong image. But she's been lost as an image maker for awhile.
Someone on a thread here said she's basically a glorified influencer for the brand.
I looked at the past Versace collection comments and majority of them are a mix of 'god versace is totally dead' or 'this looks crazy cheap who's buying this' 'why is there a miu miu bag then a balenciaga bag' or 'maybe she needs to stop sending the same dress out' or 'the name versace doesn't even say high fashion anymore'.
So what does the brand do when she has no ideas left, no one wants to see her leave and no one new come (other than Tisci).

So with that all said, who are the right people to buy it? Realistic options that they consider Versace to be an attractive asset to turn around, as Kering, LVMH would not go near it. Capri turned out a flop.

Even if it all goes to s**t, i doubt they will ever go down that route. Their name is known world wide, and they probably just sustain selling t shirts, gaudy jewelery, and underwear etc. Jill and Helmut didnt have a big enough name to begin with.
Helmut Lang Jeans was a cash-cow...and Prada finished it when they acquired HL.

I'm from Miami and when Gianni died they had a museum opening and I went on the first day and that's when I fell in love with Versace I have all the books.
I make a little jokes but this is very sad she should have had a big outgoing
Just think about how many iconic look she's given for the red carpet advertisement and fashion in general nobody can top her

Not Tom Ford not Demma, McQueen orJohn galliano she's over them. She's got a gigantic library of images that change the world forever she's brilliant. Donatella was a part of making fashion entertainment. s-l1200.jpg 23a534473c751e5fa91d3c646fee78af.jpg s-l1200 (1).jpg s-l1200 (2).jpg

I feel for Donatella, but this moment has been a long time coming. Versace, as a brand, has struggled with relevance for nearly a decade. Its last true peak was around 2014-2015, followed by a brief resurgence with the tribute collection—after which, the decline was inevitable. While the early 2000s were a golden era in terms of aesthetic and cultural impact, the brand’s sales weren’t particularly strong even then, something many seem to forget. In many ways, Donatella was fortunate to have maintained part ownership; without it, she might have been gone years ago. The brand is undeniably in trouble, and whatever revival plan is in motion, she’s not part of it. Whether that was her decision or not may never be fully known, but it was a necessary shift. As far as Prada goes, it's nothing like it was in the ’90s. It wields far greater power, influence, and resources. The transition and revival is going to be extremely difficult and stressful, perhaps Donatella simply didn’t want to be part of that. At nearly 70, who can blame her for stepping back?

I agree the battle that she was going to be up against was going to be immense tenacious battle. Not only is she going to be battling Prada but also battling a whole new generation of designers and a new generation of kids who she has to sell to. And In that new generation Madonna is out the Kardashians are out it's a whole new world and the celebrities that she dressed and the women that she dressed are no longer really a part of it. Just a memory.

Biggest problem was she never redefined what sex was for new upcoming generation. We kind of technically lived in between the conservative world and full on sex out.
Would love to see her put on a retrospective show though. Now that's sad.

Such a shame, even if her shows have been lacklustre in previous years. She does not deserve to be cast out of Versace like this, she deserves a big 150-look retrospective and more. It will also be interesting to see what if any role Allegra will play in the new Versace, I always thought when Donatella left that Allegra would take over the house but in a ghost-designer situation with Donatella as the face of the brand.

An end of an era 💜

Take a look at the Versace website and you will easily realize why Prada and the management decided to get her off the creative / artistic direction. On the home page you can find:
- Miu Miu Arcadie ripoff bag (bag released almost a decade ago but got revamped 3 years ago)
- Cringy bag charms used to bait gen Z that Miu Miu released 3 years ago (also imagine spending 300+ Euro on a plastic bead bag charm that looks a purchase gift for the anniversary spread of Teen Vogue...)

- A model wearing Prada lookalike print covering her cuckoo with the skirt in a cringy / wannabe avant garde pose

The current whole womenswear Versace offering screams Michael Kors budget version of Prada / Miu Miu best sellers...the menswear is only silk baroque tacky prints worn by Miami playboys and basics with Medusa head hardware / buttons.
Versace should be a leader in the fashion conversation, not a follower.

The end of an era. I remember watching her shows in the lates 90s and early to mid 00s and loving it. The sexiness and glamour that the brand had under her leadership was unmatched. The brand definitely struggled after the recession and the designs just weren't there. I'll miss the idea of Donatella at the brand, but not necessarily her design lead as the brand became so cheap. Dario had better dive deep into the archives and dazzle us. No intellectualism !!
Came here to leave the same comment as you, Salvatore. Donatella’s legacy and contribution is unmatched. Yes maybe lately it wasn’t what we imagined it to be but she’s totally an icon forever. She’s the very reason I ended up working in fashion. Hoping Dario will present something exciting and groundbreaking
