While Doutzen Kroes went back to her fitting room to take her wings off (they’re much too heavy!), we spoke to Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou who has been the show’s creative director for the last three years. “It’s almost like writing a play or a good novel, Sophia explains. “There has to be a lot of color, good characters, moments were it’s romantic, and moments where it’s playful. Unlike other fashion shows, here you have vignettes that take you from one place to the next and you have to be quite mindful of how they’re going to link.”
This year’s theme and various vignettes are so under wraps that Doutzen was hardly unable to sneak a peek at the story boards, but she was given clearance to fill us in on her own three looks. “I’m wearing three two outfits in addition to my wings: ‘Snow Angels’ and I’m opening the ‘Shipwrecked’ section.” Doutzen walked out in her first look with an infectious smile, spreading happiness throughout the set. Sophia spoke for the rest of the room with her long “Wow!”
Along with all of the excitement, Doutzen admits that there’s a lot of pressure to stay in shape before the show. “I put in some extra green juices with my food and extra workouts, but I like to work out. My favorite juice from The Juice Press is called “14 Hours.” It’s apple with maca—it tastes so good. The worst one is Mother Earth, but it’s so good for you, so I do drink it.”
For Doutzen and the rest of the angels, show preparation is also a time to catch up with her VS friends. “It’s so great to have new girls join. And then there’s the familiar girls: Candice, Adriana, and Alessandra. We’re not all together that often, so for the show it’s nice. Every year it’s bigger and better, so I’m excited for the show.”
