Flying without wings! Doutzen Kroes jets to Milan Fashion Week after leaving her job as a Victoria's Secret Angel
The day after Victoria's Secret confirmed that Angel Doutzen Kroes had handed in her wings, the Dutch model was spotted arriving in Italy for Milan Fashion Week.
The 30-year-old was dressed all in black and wheeled her own luggage through the arrivals hall with one hand while clutching a gold-colored cell phone and black designer purse in the other.
She was wrapped up well against the chill of the Northern Italian winter with black skinny jeans, biker boots and a warm leather jacket over a hoodie.
Kroes apparently quietly quit the underwear giant at the end of last year, ending her contract with the company after 10 years modeling for the brand.
She joined Victoria's Secret in 2004 and earned her Angel wings in 2008.The confirmation of her departure comes one day after it was announced that Karlie Kross is also leaving the lingerie line.
Kloss from Chicago became an Angel in 2011 at 18 and her contract expires this year.
On Tuesday the New York Post's Page Six claimed both Angels quit because they're not getting paid enough.
It is thought the beauties' pay packets are much smaller than those of older VS stars including Brazilian-born Alessandra Ambrosio, 33.
The newspaper quoted an insider who explained: 'The money isn't what it used to be. Older contracts like Alessandra Ambrosio were in the millions, now they're like $100,000.'
However, the Angels' senior creative director ed Razek pooh-poohed any suggestion that the parting of ways between the company and the model was anything other than amicable.
Razek posted a message on Instagram saying 'Doutzen had a lucrative opportunity in Europe and it would have conflicted with her VS obligations. So, at her agencies request, we released her from contract. There was no conflict. No animosity.'
As for Kloss, Razek said: ' Karlie and I met several months ago to discuss the many things she hoped to do in her life and career. As we talked, it became clear that she would not have the time to fulfil her myriad commitments. Reluctantly, we agreed she would leave the brand at the end of her contract.'

Today’s Fendi show provided Milan’s first supermodel sighting—in the form of Doutzen Kroes. “Karl [Lagerfeld] asked me to come and, well, of course, it was an honor,” said the Dutch beauty, who was looking remarkably fresh-faced and healthy backstage, despite the early arrival time. “I flew in from Holland last night for the fitting,” she continued. “When Karl calls, you say yes!”
Wearing leather leggings and a pale blue tee, Kroes, who gave birth to her second child this past fall, was looking remarkably fit—the result, she says, of regular Ballet Beautiful sessions—as she sank into the makeup chair. Once seated, makeup artist Peter Philips painted on a “rough brushstroked” smudge of Diorshow Art Pen along the lashes, which he was adapting slightly to suit each model’s eye shape, for an off-kilter, graphic effect.
Hairstylist Sam McKnight blasted her signature waves with Oribe texturizing spray next, then pinned them up into an easy half-twist half-ponytail. “The collection is architectural—so we wanted to offset that a bit,” he said of leaving wispy bits free around the face. “This isn’t the kind of woman who cares too much about her hair anyway.” Before stepping onto the runway, each of Lagerfeld’s models was fit with a slim leather headband, which, in Kroes’ case, arrived in a cool shade of cream that matched her show-opening statement coat—and offered up the chicest second day hair strategy of season yet.

Very surprised but happy to see Doutzen at Fendi! I never knew she was a favorite of Karl. Hope to see her walk some more shows!

Karl was one of the very first major designers that believed in her when she was new in the scene and he booked her for the Fendi shows in 2004 when she had done pretty much zero work yet

Catch Fashion One's exclusive designer's interview with womenswear creative director Karl Lagerfeld, menswear creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi and CEO Pietro Fendi as they present the AW 2015 collection for the Fendi during Milan Fashion Week. The collection is inspired by the architecture of the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, interpreted in hard, beaky bird-of-paradise flower embellishments, oversized padded pieces and prints. Fall inlove with the catwalk lined-up with enourmous abstracts from the early-20th-century Swiss artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp as models strut with full-skirted flare, tabard tops, clutches, voluminous coats, strapless dresses and sleeveless silhouettes. The runway is opened by Doutzen Kroes and closed by Lindsey Wixson.

Such a great surprise to see her at Fendi. And really, these runway pics could as well be from FW05, she hasn't really aged a bit
