The revelation:
"I was 18, spending my holidays in a camp, complaining about not having pocket money. A friend of mine suggested that i could be a model. I found stupid the idea of sending pics of me to an agency, i had the fantasy of being "discovered" like Claudia Schiffer, in a nightclub. But i sent them anyways, without telling neither my family nor my friends, thinking that "if i become famous i'll invent a more glamorous story for the press..." and if i had been rejected, it would have saved my honour. An agency in Amsterdam immediately made me sign a contract. And i kept my somwhat cheesy story..."
The Debuts:
"Terrible. It was in New York, I arrived the day after the black-out in 2003. No air conditionned and it was August ! The city smelled like gutters, trashes were everywhere on the streets... All the models living in the appartment i was in had a job, but i had nothing. Despair ! I cried everyday, i wanted to go back home. Then Elle France called me for an editorial and then for the cover. That's when everything started. I then worked with Steven Meisel, Mario Testion, Craig McDean, walked the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior, landed campaigns for Gucci, Calvin Klein..."
How she makes breaks:
"I go back to my small village in the north of netherlands, Eastrmar, as soon as i can." Some sweetness in a tough world ? "in the industry you've gotta take waht's good - designers' talent, photographers' creativity, but avoid the "after show life" Fashion parties ? "i rather go to the birthday parties of my agent's children"
The " + " about Fashion:
"Creativity. The more successful you are, the more enthralling the ppl you get to work with are. To work with such photographers as Steven Meisel, Craig McDean, David Sims... it's a rare privilege. When i meet them i'm like a sponge, i feed myself with their creativity, their vision, their technics..."
The " - ":
"Rich men. They think models dream of being with millionaires. They all believe it. They're ridiculous. I'm independant. I have my own money. And i'll never have a relationship based on the size of a wallet, however big it is."
The secrets of her success:
"Like Karolina Kurkova, i arrive on time on the shootings. I don't drink, i go to bed early and i eat biologic food. In order to have a beautiful skin and look good, what one has in their plate is as important as a beauty cream."

About the Kiss Kiss Guerlain ad... The photoshop make-up is so horrible! Shame on Guerlain! They should reshoot Doutzen with that make up. They just put the older one with red lipstick and change the colors of her make-up! Bad Move!!!
Ok! Now I know why you said that. It's weird that Doutzen wasn't at Vesace Show. She seems to be the perfect model to Donatella's style.
I agree to say that lots a beautiful models isn't as hot as they should be : Jessica Miller, Maja Latinovic, Anne V., Jessiann Gravel for exemple.
Happily, some beautiful models are still hot (Anja Rubik, Heather Marks, Angela Lindvall, Daria and of course Doutzen).
