That crystal puffer is doing entirely unreasonable things to me as D2 always does. The whole concept is surprisingly coherent, too. Even the puffer shorts, which are objectively hilarious, feel wearable. Same with the crystal jeans. It is playful, but it is not random. It makes so much sense in St Moritz.
Overall, this is a very sensible collection with a lot of real clothes you could actually wear. I keep waiting for the “Euro trash” moment, and I am not really seeing it. That gorgeous coyote coat is a knockout, and the track jacket with the fur merged into it is exactly the kind of high-impact outerwear they do best. My one major gripe is the jeans with the side stripe, because that detail feels tired at this point.
I love all the flared denim. The leather shorts with the burgundy inset are gorgeous. In general, it is a strong collection with an abundance of excellent leather, great denim, sharp suits, and serious outerwear. If there is a weak category right now, it is shirts. That said, the “Hot as Ice” sweater reads like Dsquared2 back in form after years of slogan pieces that never quite landed.
On the women’s side, there is plenty of fantasy. The puffer looks were genuinely funny, and the closing ski leggings were funny too.
In the end, it is unmistakably Dsquared2. A Milano winter-wonderland fantasy, delivered with a wardrobe you can still pull from. These clothes are for people who have it all.
I was laughing out loud at the end when they came out on the models shoulders.
