But I came across those pictures when cleaning my hard disk .....

i've already seen this, but that's totally amazing. some of Meisel's inspirations come too far in terms of taking an image and recreating it step by step to the point of simulation. but this Lanvin imagery. i totally adore how it gets a whole new meaning with the clothes, still the reference is absolutely clear.

Maybe it was Alber ELbaz who has this in mind when creating the concept of the campaign?

he has a lot of visual references ... and that's what makes him so amazing and powerfull.
he has the power to get the right references in his "brain library" for anything. (it's indeed sometimes too far in the "simulation" - i personnaly love it when he tries to do sthg very cinematic).

they probably came together with the idea of crazy granny.
but imo only him can have such a visual library.
(i saw they did some sort of history of art/fashion/photography in september issue).

i would love to see more unpublished (and unrequested) of him.

Steven Meisel Visual Library

Steven Meisel is known for having a big "brain visual library" ...
As he's one of the most important fashion photographer of the late 20th century, I think it would be interesting to collect here (for future history of fashion students) the amount of his references ..........

Perhaps this thread would merge with another TFS thread, but I thought it would be very interesting to focus on this particular photographer's inspirations. It would be like a sort of class .......

To be honest, I dont think Meisel was inspired by that picture by Manuel, but yes Meisel indeed
has a lot of references in his images, but I dont think this is the inspiration for the Lanvin campaign.
When Meisel is using certain references, his images would look somehow uncanny similar somehow
with his own touch that you know it's Meisel.

On the role, on how who came up with what, to be honest, none of us really know who really had the idea,
probably only the stylists/art directors/photographers themselves know. For example, for a lot times in Vogue Italia,
you would never know who came up with the theme, and I doubt Meisel came up with everything himself.

We only can is to make intelligent guesses.
