Eley Kishimoto F/W 08.09 London

i could see kate nash wearing most of this... not really my style. but i LOVE the shoes and some of the coats.... as for it beign ''childish'' go figure... as the page was loading i went '' what is this, childrenswear?'' might be the clothes/hair but the first two models really looked like two young girls to me *_*

not sure how to feel about this, split decision... i like some of it.

it seems "frump" is the thing this fall... marc jacobs was having the same problem.

nice jackets, and love some of these necklines and collars. like the colors, but not necessarily the prints.

Wow this is like 60s gone modern. Its really new, I havent seen something like this in ages. But it looks sorta stupid at the same time. Most women i think would hesitate to wear this collection. Especially the shoes and some of the prints.

I have very mixed feelings about this one... really constant and well finished, but just a little too late I think... this whole retro-eastern european (USSR-ish) look has been drained already a couple of years ago.

hmm...some of the coats are very nice

does this collection remind anyone else of clowns?

i fear clowns with a passion, so maybe that's why this collection is so disturbing to me.

Why shouldnt a woman dress liek a child?
thats an incredibly close minded statement

A little naivite (Christian Wijnants for example) is charming, but in this case, I think it makes a woman look incredibly silly and dumb, unintelligent. (Bernhard Willhelm on the other hand make people look sexy thru their sense of humor).

I don't think this is very now, nor fashionable in its image for grown up women (cause thats who theyre designing for). I think Eley Kishimoto have done a lot better collections.

These prints and colours make women look flat and dull. Theyre meant for children. Not for a sophisticated, interesting, charming woman. Again: I think the women look ********.. ;)

ah...how do i adore EK! freshest collection they've done in a while actually....and those were actually really good too. very very very strong, beginning to end. and those shoes....they are gorgeous too!!

telepathic, what do you mean women shouldn't dress like children? so women all have to dress like depressing robots or something? there is nothing wrong with a bit of naivite....a bit of whimsy. and its not as if people will wear these looks head to toe. although if i were female i probably would wear alot of this.

I don't think it's a very original image to send out as a designer. And I've never said anything about robots :/

Besides, with these horrible prints, and basic cut, I think these women look like robots. Charmless, and without character.

Tho this must be their most human collection so far...

^^ Can you please stop using "********" to describe your feelings towards this collection? :flower:

^so it makes women look mentally challenged? not every woman wants to convey a grown up image and obviously eley is aware of that otherwise he wouldnt have created such a whimsical collection. its ridiculous that you assume every woman wants to and should dress a certain way. how boring would our world be if that were the case?

robots was merely my interpretation,as you said you thought women shouldn't look childish. i dunno,i just don't see anything like you describe in this. i think the clothes look sweet and quirky....and easily accessible as a wearer.

Really like a lot of this, actually - kind of reminds me of the late '60s (Rosemary's Baby) via the early '80s (frilly Lady Di collars and harlequin and geometric patterns). :)

Late sixties and early '70s womenswear had a lot of slightly naive-looking, 'childish' designs, so to proclaim that look unwearable, is to, in effect, discount the best part of an era of design.

We all have the right to our opinion, of course and I'm pretty sure my partner would hate a lot of this, too (not sexy enough) and would say so, in no uncertain terms, if asked; but, TBH, I'm not quite sure why any man would think he had the right to pronounce which styles a woman should, or shouldn't wear (in general)?

Put it this way, I would certainly never think I had the right to do so to a man.

If I did, I would be constantly pronouncing that a man should only ever dress like Captain Jack Sparrow, Adam Ant (in his Stand and Deliver video of 1981), or UK TV presenter, comedian and well-known Lothario, Russell Brand and it's a good job I don't (or is it?!), as the human race would soon come to an end, due to the disasterous affects of repeated skin-tight trouser-wearing on sperm production! ;)

I agree that the styling is a bit much. The tights and gloves are not my style but the individual pieces look very beautiful and impeccably made. There are a pair of gray slacks in there that I think are beautifully tailored.

with any EK collection, if you look at all the pictures of the collection in a row, it does get overwhelming. there is a lot of colour and pattern in there. but i think individually the pieces stand up very well especially some of those dresses. is you imagine some space between all those layers and images, EK create a beautifiul world indeed. thumbs up from me!

^ Yeah, I looked at it again and there are maybe 10 pieces altogether I wouldn't like anywhere, in any context. And you don't have to wear these looks together with bow-ties and white gloves. I can understand some of the prints being off-putting but almost everything in the show can be broken up and played up or down, which I think is great for a modern woman. It has everything; pants, skirts (both short and knee-length), dresses, shirts, jackets, blouses, and scarves. It really isn't too difficult to wear IMO.

It's not my style but I must admit it looks really cute. And the colours are lovely

i agree chloe. and i totally respect you disliking this,telepathic....but i just don't understand why you say women have to dress to certain standard in your eyes. and as a matter of fact, you mentioned bernhard, remember only recently he did do that highly childish, kitschy bavarian folk collection for women....not to mention the work he did his first seasons. and christian with some of his work thus(and i know you might be a bit biased considering the work you did with him)far. and let's not forget dirk van saene in this equation as well since what they normally do is very, very kindred to what he does. it's just a bit contradictory to give them high praise in their aesthetics, but then to turn around and say that the similar whimsical element in this collection is horrible.

Maybe I was talking more about the designer's approach to womenswear and a woman's wardrobe.

I just don't think EK have what it takes to dress a woman. And if a woman would wear outfits like these (with this styling, cause thats how its presented), I think it will look uninteresting and uncharming. Just silly

Dirk van Saene is in another league if you ask me. His design-approach feels very, very woman-friendly and very respectful. The way that man cuts a dress or a jacket is phenomenal!

And again, as I said with Bernhard I think he uses our sense of humor/communication to make women look beautiful and incredibly charming.

Now the thing here is of course, to ask, what do we expect from designers nowadays? I personally expect a view on a woman's wardrobe that is now (fashionable) and interesting, respectful, inpiring, you name it.

I just have problems with EK. I personally think they should stick with prints. Their approach to designing is very "print-minded", which I think often leads to a more flat and dull result. But hey, it's just my opinion. Sorry about the lack of nuance in my earlier comments. I'll blame the language-barrier. :)
