Golf pro Tiger Woods is set to wed his 23-year-old Swedish girlfriend, Elin Nordegren, his agent has confirmed.

After numerous reports that Tiger had become engaged, Mark Steinberg of IMG came forward on Friday to acknowledge the star athlete had popped the question to his girlfriend of two years.

Tiger apparently asked the 23-year-old model to marry him last week during a sunset walk at game park in South Africa, where he was playing in the Presidents Cup. A spokesperson for the game reserve said that when the two boarded a private jet to leave, the young blonde had a "huge diamond on her finger".

The bride-to-be promptly broke the good news to her family. "She called… and was incredibly happy," Elin's father, Thomas, told the Swedish newspaper Expressen. "I only spoke shortly with them on the telephone, but they were happy and I congratulated them."

According to reports, the nuptials will likely take place in Sweden, but no details have been confirmed.

She met Tiger last summer when working as a nanny for Swedish golf pro Jesper Parnevik. Parnevik introduced her to Tiger during British Open last summer

pretty... you have to wonder though, would she even have given tiger a second look if he was not the god of golf? i guess you can say that about anyone famous with talent and their talent is who they are and attraction comes in all forms.... i find tiger cute myself....

I totally agree, I just wish she really loves him for who he is INSIDE and not for his money and fame.

Tiger Woods says he was "totally shocked" that the founder of a South African game reserve where he proposed to girlfriend Elin Nordegren revealed intimate details of the special occasion to the public.

Last week, businessman Adrian Gardiner told the press that the 27-year-old had popped the question during a sunset walk at the game park, and Elin was sporting a "huge diamond on her finger" when the couple left by private jet.

And now, via a statement on his official website, Tiger has hit back at the "betrayal". "I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to South Africa for the Presidents Cup, with one exception: I was betrayed by Adrian Gardiner, founder of the Shamwari Game Reserve," he says.

"He promised to protect my privacy during a four-day stay with friends, but went back on his word, not only alerting the newspapers about my engagement to Elin Nordegren, but inviting the mayor and local school children to the airport when we departed."

I'm so glad that there's a thread on her. She is sooooo beautiful, a natural beauty at that. She's one of a very few women that can carry off the "bleached blonde peroxide look" without looking cheap and trashy in the process.
