It's probably her godchild (niece or nephew). She said in her interview is French Elle that she was now living in Paris to be closer to her family.

On Saturday August 2n the mayor and magistrates paid tribute to worldfamous topmodel Elise Crombez who's a native of Koksijde . She made the cover of fashionmagazine Vogue no less than 13 times. Elise Crombez was discoverd in 2000 by Dominique Models at a Miss Mannequin pageant in Roeselare. She won the pageant. Two years later she signs her first contract in New York and leaves for te Big Apple. Remarkably this was the first flight ever. In the same year she's in the top 5 of "most-asked-models" !
Elise did campagnes for a.o. Prada (5x), Versace, Helmut Lang, Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Jil Sander(2x) en Eres. In 2003 she was the face for a campagne of H & M. She worked for the most wellknown fashion magazines Vogue (Italy, UK, Paris, Germany, Spain, USA), Harper's Bazaar, Allure, Mixte, Elle…

Elise did fashion shows for Giorgio Armani, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Calvin Klein and Dior (designer: John Galliano). In 2006 she was on the cover of the book “Koksijde”.

Mayor Marc Vanden Bussche didn't hide he was very proud of Elise because she says in practically every interview, that Koksijde still means a lot to her. To thank her the city[hall] gave here an impressive frame with all the covers of Vogue and the cover of te book Koksijde.

On the picture where she's holding the kid, she's wearing the 'coastgard clothes' and they are on the beach. I guess they just borrowed the kid for a picture. It doesn't say if if it's related to her or not. I don't think it's hers though

Elise Crombez haalt dertien keer cover 'Vogue'
KOKSIJDE - Dertien keer prijkte ze op de cover van Vogue. Voor dat Belgische unicum werd Elise Crombez in Koksijde gevierd. Al die tijd bleef ze dat eenvoudige meisje van de zee. 'Model zijn is immers een tijdelijke illusie', vindt ze.


Elise Crombez werd in 2002 Miss Mannequin in Roeselare. In 2002 stapte ze voor het eerst op een vliegtuig. Ze vloog meteen naar New York. Datzelfde jaar belandde ze in de top vijf van de meest gevraagde modellen ter wereld. Ze deed campagnes voor Prada, Versace, Lang, Valentino, Lauren, liep modeshows voor Armani, Gaultier, Klein, Dior en werkte voor de grootste modebladen.

Onlangs haalde ze voor de dertiende keer de cover van Vogue. Voor dat unicum werd ze zaterdag in Koksijde gevierd.

Koksijde is bijzonder trots op zijn beroemde inwoonster. 'Zij blijft een meisje van de zee en van Koksijde. Dat steekt ze nooit onder stoelen of banken. Elise maakt onbetaalbare reclame voor onze gemeente', vindt burgemeester Marc Vanden Bussche (Open VLD).



'Vroeger zei men in Sint-Idesbald: kijk, dat is de dochter van Johan', zegt vader Johan Crombez. 'Nu zegt men: daar is de vader van Elise. Maar haar leven is niet enkel rozengeur en maneschijn. Het is een harde wereld waarin ze leeft. Eigenlijk kies je niet om model te worden, de sector kiest jou en laat je ook vallen. We hebben nog twee zonen. Die moeten vechten voor hun plaats. Misschien mogen we blij zijn dat we geen tweede dochter hebben.'

'Topmodel of niet, Elise blijft gewoon mijn zus', zegt broer Tom (24). 'Ik voel me helemaal niet in de schaduw gesteld door haar. Wij steunen elkaar constant. Alles heeft ook zijn voor- en nadelen. Ik heb een goede vriendin, terwijl voor Elise een relatie nu moeilijk is.'

'Toen ik in New York arriveerde, was het of ik in een film stapte. Dat gevoel is nooit verdwenen. Belangrijk om het daar zeven jaar uit te houden, was dat ik telkens naar Koksijde kon terugkeren. Ik voel me eigenlijk een beetje schuldig tegenover anderen dat ik die kans kreeg. Ik voel me ook schuldig voor het imago van de modellenwereld tegenover de echte vrouw. Ik stond dertien keer op de cover van modeblad Vogue. Mannen maken dan vergelijkingen. Maar voor mij is model zijn een tijdelijke illusie. Ik kan dat wereldje relativeren. Echte en sterke schoonheid, dat vind je volgens mij bij jonge moeders en bij vrouwen die gracieus ouder worden.'

Hoe lang Elise (26) nog doorgaat? 'Iedereen vraagt me dat, maar ik weet het antwoord zelf niet. Wat ik wel weet: nadien zou ik iets willen doen in een film. Geen glamourfilm, maar een alternatieve prent. Een film met een boodschap.'
