Elliott Smith

It's been bugging me that there is a John Mayer thread with 5 or 6 pages, and Elliott Smith is still on page 1. So finally i have something to add!

This is exciting - there will be a new double-album of rarities released on May 5 called "New Moon". Here is the track listing:

This is exciting:) I remember when I first started getting into music in middle school, one of his songs was on some crappy American Eagle sampler I got for buying jeans, and I listened to it literally 100 times. I've never been the same since, what a musician.

It troubles me a little bit that there are only two pages on him, but I think that he was an incredible musician. I know I can characterize something as a favorite when I can listen to it literally hundreds and hundreds of times and never get tired of it. It's his lyrics, his melodies, his arrangements -- it's everything, everything, everything, and I really hope that, for the future's sake, his is the kind of music that can transcend generations.

i heard about the new cd. I'm hyped to listen to it. I just cant get enough of mr. smith

If you like Either/Or then i definitely think you'll like the new release. It's all from around that period and most of it is as good as anything that is on that album.

I was personally hoping for more later period stuff, but that's not what it was about. (These was all pre-major label recordings.)

Apart from music, I really enjoy the package of New Moon. And I'm also glad that elliottsmithbsides seems to be alive again & that some record stores have lots of his records available here now, so people don't have to come every week and ask if they have this and that because they're too lazy to shop online (me :p)

I haven't heard much on New Moon yet, but he really is one of the greatest musicians of all time. Either/Or and his self-titled album are both fantastic.

im in love with the world through the eyes of the girl
i still remember when i first heard that song... i ran home and downloaded everything i could find from elliott smith:blush:

:heart::heart: him. needle in the hay and everything reminds me of her always get me choked up. in some of those pictures, he looks A LOT like alan rickman!

elliot smith is one of those who makes real beautiful music. he is such a wonderful musician.

 Memory Lane

What a way to go though, stabbing yourself in the heart

i've been listening to him nonstop lately...i love all his albums, but right now i'm especially enjoying from a basement on the hill.

Ah yes, he is amazing. I really like "From a Basement on the Hill" too. I usually need to be in a certain mood to listen to his stuff though-- but when I'm in that kind of mood, I'll listen to it nonstop. My favorite song is "Between the Bars." I also really like "Fond Farewell" and "King's Crossing"

and i adore Pretty Mary K the other version. that song gets me every time. there is sth so honest and vulnerable about his songs, that makes you want to hug him - or someone near you :)
