The Red Carpet Highlights of... The 78th Annual Cannes Film Festival 2025!
MODERATOR'S NOTE: Please can all of theFashionSpot's forum members remind themselves of the Forum Rules. Thank you.
Ten years ago a young Emma Watson first hit the red carpet as the bright young ‘Harry Potter’ star.
Back then she wouldn’t have known that she would go on to make 7 more Harry Potter movies and become a millionairess, an icon to many teenage girls, the face of Burberry, collaborate with Alberta Ferretti and be called a fashion icon by many leading fashion magazines.

The Early Years
Her journey started off at the 2001 “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” London Premiere. You can tell by what she’s wearing that was already interested in dressing up as she added a feather boa to jazz up her look.
In 2002 the young actress had already grown up a lot in a space of a year. At the “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” LA Premiere she opted for a ‘bohemian meets biker’ look pairing a brown paisley dress with matching leather jacket and boots.
At the “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” New York Premiere it was clear the young star needed some help.

The Chanel Years
It looks like Chanel noted that Emma did need help in 2007.
Whilst Emma promoted “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ” we saw the birth of a beautiful relationship between Emma and Chanel. It was the first time I have ever seen an actress as young as Emma wearing Couture. Of course Elle Fanning and co. have made it the norm now.

The Cool Britannia Years
The actress was soon courted by British brands who were keen to see the British actress wearing British designers.
Burberry were the first to take notice of Emma, and as you know she’s since gone onto become the face of the brand.
Other British designers followed suit including the more established Alexander McQueen and Temperley London, plus Emma introduced us to an up-and-coming designer, William Tempest at “The Tale Of Despereaux” LA Premiere.

I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman Years
I started to appreciate Emma Watson’s style around 2009/10.
She was having more fun with fashion opting for edgy, more grown up looks. By this time it was clear she was trying to separate herself from her ‘Harry Potter’ character, ‘Hermione Granger.’
Emma in Rodarte and vintage Ossie Clark were my favourites. She’s also seen here wearing Christopher Kane and a custom Burberry Prorsum dress to the Met Gala.

Going Short Years
Without being too dramatic, Emma’s shorter hairstyle was headline news. The star was officially done with being Hermione Granger and boy did she want us to know about it.
The girl who wasn’t allowed to tan, wear a push up bra, or change her hair colour was finally free.
With a new hairstyle came a new attitude and we saw that on the red carpet at the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I” Premiere. Emma dazzled her rain soaked fans wearing a Rafael Lopez short black dress and Charlotte Olympia shoes.
It took us a while to get used to Emma’s new ‘do but she made it work during her last hoorah on the red carpet for the ”Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II” London and New York Premieres.
Go big or go home was her moto and we loved her for it.
We have many more years of seeing Emma Watson on the red carpet.
In 10 years time I will be bringing you the next installment of her red carpet transformation.
LOL, my favourite period is definitely the I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman Years. Not crazy about Emma's current style tbh.
The vintage Ossie Clark dress is by far my favorite Emma red carpet moment, so perfect.
