Emma Watson

oh how i wished perks were more recognized by all those awards in this season. for me, it was one of the best movies last year, tbh. so much nice chemistry between all of them and such a compact clique... truth to be told, i'm surprised no one from the cast did any any rounds at least as a presenter.. argh.

I have a feeling that The Bling Ring will be getting some attention come next year's award season. It IS a Sofia Coppola movie after all.

The last film Sofia got awards attention for was Lost in Translation and that was quite a while back. I am almost positive Noah is going to get her awards attention if she ups her acting game. Her role was originally meant for Saoirse Ronan, who is one of if not the best of her generation, apparently she leads the last third of the film and it's Aronofsky.

Lainey has a new blind item that may be referring to Emma. I didn't know Emma had gone to any pre-Oscar parties, so it's probably her.
Maybe some pictures of her outfits will emerge soon. *fingers crossed*

I agree. It's won a few smaller awards and it got an Independent Spirit Award a couple of days ago for Best First Feature.
But I'm surprised the script didn't get a best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nomination.

I just watched it again last night with a friend, and it really is a great movie.
My friend was raving about it and realized about an after later that Emma Watson isn't really American.

Right, Noah will probably get attention as well, especially considering the rest of the cast, but it's not being released until 2014.

Upstart distributor A24 has set a June 14 limited theatrical release launch of the Sofia Coppola-directed The Bling Ring, and it has set an August 2 limited release for the James Ponsoldt-directed The Spectacular Now. This spring, A24 launches Ginger & Rosa and Spring Breakers, films also aiming at a young demographic.

The Bling Ring stars Emma Watson, Leslie Mann, Gavin Rossdale and Paris Hilton, latter of whom was actually ripped off by the title characters, young bandits who broke into the homes of well to do celebutantes. The film’s based on the Vanity Fair article The Suspects Wore Louboutins by Nancy Jo Sales.

Emma is in talks for Cinderella

Emma Watson Trying on Glass Slipper for Disney’s ‘Cinderella’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Actress in Early Talks to Star in Fairy Tale Kenneth Branagh Will Direct

Disney would like to slip the glass slipper onto Emma Watson as the star of “Cinderella.”

While the actress does not yet have the role, Watson is in very early talks with the studio to play the character in the live action adaptation that Kenneth Branagh will direct, and Simon Kinberg will produce. Cate Blanchett will play the wicked stepmother.

It’s the latest fairy tale the Mouse House is getting into the megaplex after Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” Sam Raimi’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” and Angelina Jolie vehicle “Maleficent,” based on “Sleeping Beauty’s” villainess.

Mark Romanek was once attached to helm “Cinderella,” based on a script by Chris Weitz and a pitch by Aline Brosh McKenna (“The Devil Wears Prada”). Studio hopes to begin production sometime this fall and release the film in 2014.

Disney would not comment on the discussions with Watson. It also considered Gabriella Wilde (“The Three Musketeers”), Imogen Poots (“Need for Speed”) and Alicia Vikander (“Anna Karenina”), but couldn’t lock down deals due to scheduling and other considerations.

Watson has been busy since the “Harry Potter” franchise finished its run at the megaplex.

She received raves for her role in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” and has completed roles in Darren Aronofsky’s “Noah,” the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg comedy “This is the End,” and signed on to the drama “Your Voice in My Head,” that David Yates was attached to direct for Warner Bros. before he left the project last year.

The Disney version isn’t the first time Watson has circled the Cinderella role.

In 2009, she considered starring in a musical featuring the character that Marilyn Manson was planning to write and direct.

Watson is repped by WME.

The movie has some great people on board so far and I can definitely see her in the role. However, I want her to play Belle. Cinderella has so many interpretations, but I have yet to see a really good Beauty and the Beast film adaptation. Plus, I really want to see her work with Guillermo del Toro.

But it looks like this will happen. She has been spotted in Florida...possibly checking out Disney World.

i think she's still doing beauty and the best AND is also in talks for Cinderella. which i think is a bad idea to do both. i also want to see her work with del Toro.

I agree. One fairytale is fine, but two within the same short time span is a little excessive.

I asked one of the Variety journalists about Beauty and he said that film is still early in development. So if Emma does both movies, there would be time enough between the movies. And the directors would make the difference between the two interpretations.

That said, I don't know which I want her to do. On one side, there's Del Toro and the world he can dream up but on the other side, there's Branagh and Blanchett.

I'd go for Beauty and the Beast. Belle is more interesting and I think it has a greater chance to buck the trend of mediocre live action fairy tales.

Blanchett is probably going to dominate Cinderella and make whoever is cast look like an amateur. I can't think of anyone who could play Cinderella and match her; the only one who could have dropped out.

This basically. She's got a better chance with del Toro. There's no way she's going to be in a film with Blanchett and get ANY attention, sorry. Not to mention, it's going to be hard to make Cinderella a meaty role, even with Branagh at the helm. So it will be even harder to hold her own, less through any fault of her own and more because it's just not a very dynamic character. Belle has more complexity.

On the other hand of this, who can I petition to stop these live action fairy tale remakes after this? If Snow White is anything to go by...:innocent:

I love that Emma's getting more work, but I think it'd be a bad idea for ANYONE to play more than one "Disney princess." I do enjoy Cinderella (and will certainly see it if Cate's in it), but Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorites, so I'd rather see Emma in that.

Beauty and the Beast is going to be based on the original story and Del Toro is going to write the script. It's never been said that Disney will be involved or that her character would be named Belle. Knowing Del Toro, Emma's character may not even end up a "princess." Also, I don't know if "Beauty and the Beast" is even the official name of that movie.

Also, this Cinderella will be Disney, but that doesn't mean it won't be creative (e.g., Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland). Kenneth could have a whole new take on it that's completely different from the old story.

So, with that said, if she does both roles...there's a chance that both adaptations will be so different that it won't even matter. But nothing is set in stone yet, she could end up doing both, just one, or neither.
