A sport reserved to the bourgeois only?

Maybe that's why you may try to impress others by sporting this luxurious style. Riding boots, gloves, helmets, tailored suit and you're ready to go.

We don't care if you can't ride a horse, because most of us probably don't either.

:D the riding hat was a 'must' for so many Parisian shows..
Ralph Lauren's collection was also influenced by the riding club chic..
i think it will work, mainly for the mainstream mass market, it's a safe and totally commercial look

Totally agree with you Lena!

This is simply a classic...

possibly one of my favorite trends. i love saddle boots with a seemingly undying passion. i recently picked up a vintage pair for $50 at a second hand store, and was so excited i fell over when i bought them.

i think i need to purchase a pair of riding boots

To be honest this is not my style at all, but it is very elegant... I'd love to see this make trend make it big....

Hah....I'm roped into a trend that's feels SO not trendy. My whole family rides - when you're wearing mud covered jodphurs and poo stained riding boots, the last thing on your mind is 'Hmmm how cool do I look!'

I get my gear from a shop in Sloane Sq and I suppose with the right kind of styling, SOME of the stuff can look good but in reality, it's all pretty ugly....

^ Part of why Englishwomen have not historically been renowned for their style ... ;)

ditto lol. I associate riding not with perfect white breeches and chic tall boots... more like horse slime

i try to see the chic side of things....

Haha, i used to ride and spend time around the stable ... the contrast between my stable gear (steel toe boots, pants worn so the suede has turned shiny, drooled on jacket, nice helmet though) and my gorgeous Prada riding boots and perfectly fit suit jacket couldn't be more striking. :D

Love my Prada boots though, so am very happy to hear of further life of the equestrian trend! :)

^ That's where lies the difference between faking it and the real thing.... you decide which one is better....!

Equestrian Style

A lovely photo spread of Madonna is featured in this month's W.

What's the general feel about equestrian style? It's lovely on film but on the street? The only time I ever felt it was fitting was when I saw lovely, fit women in a Notting Hill pub wearing riding breeches and cozy sweaters on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

I know this pops up on the runway from time to time as well.

In this shoot I feel that the equestrian accessories are simply to illustrate the point that Madge a.) fell off her horse and b.) survived and thrives! teeheehee!

I really don't like this at all. The riding helmets were the one thing why I didn't like Balenciaga F/W collection. The clothes can have an equestrian feeling, like Balenciaga there has, but why do they have to add whips and helmets? It looks like parody.

I love equestrian style because I've grown up wearing it, but I don't think this look will become trendy. Besides the riding boots, everything else is too impractical. If I saw a girl wearing breeches downtown I'd have no choice but to neigh at her. It's like a ballerina, too. One would feel silly wearing their leotard and skirt out in public as an outfit--and would probably think non-dancers would look silly as well.

I think all horse-lovers would agree that whenever they have their equestrian wear on, it's to go to the stables and not to a movie ^_^

And like susie_bubble mentioned--it'd feel weird to have perfectly clean breeches and boots. heh.

(But maybe the whip could come in handy? Hmm? Like in line at Starbucks...)

yes, I agree, it's not likely to become a very common trend. That said, many times after I ride I go grocery shopping and have been known to run to Nordstroms once or twice in my breeches and boots but never with a helmet on or spurs and a whip in hand. I think if you ride and are acustomed to wearing these things all the time they just seem to be as natural as wearing jeans and a tee. I'm sure the scent I give off and the the dirty clothes taint the look somewhat though. ;-)

I too grew up riding. I love the look of someone in their riding gear, but not as a trend. The only riding item I can see easily worn on the street is the boots, but no helmets please!
