Erin Wasson- Jewelry Thief?

Model meets obscure designer.

They agree that the model will use her connections to market some of the designer's pieces and to recast them using more expensive material. The pieces will be marketed under the model's brand name, and the designer will get in return some of the profits. Standard practice in the business.

The pieces receive a good share of publicity and the designer decides it's time to take all the glory for herself and use the opportunity to make her name more known.

Sensationalist "she was almost in tears" articles appear in certain online publications and the world goes "ohh, the poor girl :("

this is interesting...doesn't seem so unreasonable..there are always 2 sides to every story.. so much of this story just seems like speculation.. who knows what's going on really..

^ really? If that's the case then it doesn't really speak well of Erin as a "jewelry designer" if she is only taking other's work and rebranding them under her name, consent or not. I thought homegirl was more "original" and "creative" than that...considering her attitude :innocent:

dimlat i was wondering if you have a source or an article to back up your statement. I'm not accusing you of lying i'm just curious if what you said could be true, because then this whole scandal will be turned on it's head. :flower:

i've noticed that bliss lau has been getting a lot more press lately since this story broke. i've recently seen her chains in Interview and Nylon. Has anyone heard anymore news connected to this story?

Erin was featured in Nylon and Interview as well LOL...maybe they just wanted to balance out.

I find it interesting that some people still say "well body chains are not a novelty... she didn't copy anyone." I love Erin's style and her jewelry line, but it's a no-brainer that her chain-saw (as she calls it) piece is a direct copy of Bliss Lau's "Tuxedo" chain. The shape is absolutely identical, as is the connector pieces when the chains join. That is not a coincidence. I knew Bliss' jewelry well before this story broke out, and immediately noticed the "resemblance" when Erin came out with the body chain. She changed the connector ends in the more recent chains, so the intersections are without embellishment- which seperates it slightly from Bliss' design as she uses leather connectors.

However I do think Erin can be credited for coming up with the idea of wearing the Tuxedo chain directly on the skin, underneath the clothing- as Wang's F/W 08 show was inspired by chains "peeking through" clothing. Bliss' chains are primarily worn over clothing. Plus Erin's version is probably sterling silver since David Yurman's son helped her with sourcing, which explains the much higher price as Bliss' chains are brass and shouldn't be worn directly on the skin for an extended period of time. Although Erin's is going to be like $1500 when it comes out at Maxfield, don't know if the recasting in a better metal is worth the extra grand plus, since you can get Bliss' Tuxedo chain for $230.

Erin has other great pieces in her jewelry collection (like the crown of thorns, metal suspenders, oxidized bangles and that huge silver ring) so I will still buy from her line, but the body chain I would probably stick with Bliss.

Anyway sorry for yapping away, just wanted to give my 2 cents

I dunno...... the more I read about it, as much as i love erin and bliss lau! I really think it is all a ploy to bring attention to Bliss Lau through Erin

I dunno the real story behind it, but I really really think that there is a piece that is missing from the story and I just gotta say there are two sides to EVERY story and we've never heard erins!

I would normally support a statement like that except that all of Erin's "work" that I've seen has heavily copied or borrowed from other designers (see her line with RVCA)

We had a swedish model doing something similar. A jewellery-maker sent her some jewellery for PR and then she stole details from them to use in her own line. She like took parts from that jewellery and used it. Such a rude thing to do.

You're right, I have seen a good many pieces from her RVCA line, :( it's just so sad, i try very hard to see the good in every situation or be devil's advocate, but you make a good point, it is kind of hard when you see so many 'inspired' looks when erin 'designs'

:-\ so discouraging

Yeah... like her or not... everything Erin touches lately has turned to gold... so... lucky her!

Looks like Erin is at it again...

I love model, it-girl and designer Erin Wasson and her style, but look at this. Her nordic inspired bracelet is a true copy of this cuff I got from my mom when I was a kid. -hippehippiemilshake.blog

This makes me lose a lot of respect for Erin. Has she issued a statement regarding this issue?

Whaat? Is she for real? Sure, she did it once, but TWICE?
...that's just embarrassing.

Who designed the first version, btw?
