Escada S/S 2008 : Christy Turlington by Patrick Demarchelier

I never really cared for Escada ads but seeing as they are in literally every single magazine, I might as well share my opinion on the ads.

I will always love the ads with Inguna, they were beautiful and captivating.

These ads just look OLD. Well, at least Christy does. I don't get any sense of emotion or any idea of the concept this ad is trying to show...

Plain, old and dull. IMHO.

I'm not familiar with the Inguna ads off the top of my head, but I'll say this: I never expect much from Escada ads. The photographs match the clothes, that is simple and empty but still pretty and delicate. These show a nice little selection of items that are surprisingly well styled and designed.

My favorite ads are from the early 2000's and featured Caroline Ribiero plus a few others in shredded white hiphugger jeans and loads of turquoise. They really defined the way I thought women should dress for a few years (mind you I was 13 or 14) haha.

I love this...Christy looks divine. Could've done without the photoshop though not like she's aged one bit, IMO.

You know...I don't know what's worse in fashion...racism or ageism?

And I certainly don't think it's that complicated. A concept? An emotion? So what?

Christy was hired to sell a product to people who relate to her. I'll agree that most 13-year-olds can't relate to this ad -- but nor can most afford to buy the clothes in the first place.

CHRISTY DOES ESCADA: After featuring a relatively unknown model in its fall campaign, Escada is adding some star power in front of, and behind, the lens for spring. Christy Turlington was shot by Patrick Demarchelier in New York for the campaign, which will launch next month. The German brand is also ushering in a new image with the spring campaign, shot as more modern and contemporary than past seasons.

 What's worse, Racism or Ageism? Well, let's look at what ageism has done to the landscape of history and then racism..
Your 'point' is infuriating, ageism never had africans enslaved and thrown off ships...

Fashion is all about an image conveying emotions and concepts, no matter what the brand. Without a concept and emotion, then what is it? Nothing. It's all images, and images need to be motivated by concepts and ideas...

No need to generalise. :innocent:

Oh, and "more modern and contemporary"?

Christy's a great choice for the brand, but the campaign feels very dated. In this case 'clean & simple' just ended up looking stale and boring.

ETA: And thanks for posting, Faithy

I don't think Fashion provoked this. :ninja:

Escada ads always catch my eye mainly because they look fresh and just that natural feel of beauty they give off. Yeah these ads aren't some of their best. But what attracts me is Christy. And give it to another model and this campaign would be 'plain, old, and dull.' Just, my opinion.

Or I still might be bitter & p*ssed that she's not the CK Eternity girl.

^^And thanks for the photographer info! :flower:

Exactly

Frankly, I think these ads are beautiful and purposeful -- a classic woman in a classic setting, promoting a classic brand that probably reestablished/refocused their target market after two seasons of youthful faces (Inguna and Elin). The "dullness" of the background serves an exact purpose: accentuating the product ;) A sophisticated woman needs no pizazz to present herself well!

I just checked out the Inguna ads and totally remember them. They're gorgeous, and a little strange which is something new for Escada. They're usually too "perfect".
