Who said that when it comes to sell "vulgarity" pays off?

While Italy "come to terms" with the fact that showgirl Belen Rodriguez's contract, as the face of a big Italian company's campaign, was not renewed due to her look in it perceived by the public as "vulgar" and to a decrease in sales since she appeared on the campaign, we take the opportunity to share our thoughts with you.

Who set the rule that the ideal model to advertise mass consumption consumer goods should a showgirl, a TV starlet or, to say it Italian words, a velina? Why don't Italian companies make an effort and try to raise their ambitions? At the end of the day, Italy is renowned for arts and fashion; hence, doesn't the Italian public deserve something better? Therefore we have decided to draft our own list of "chic" models that we'd like to see on advertising posters in our towns or on TV commercials, interrupting our favourite programmes.

Starting, for instance, from the Italian top-model, Eva Riccobono: which Italian man could resist not being tempted by Eva while she "suggests" us what to buy from a commercial? Tall, blond and beautiful; no matter what she advertises, sales would sky-rocket! Other examples. Many teenage girls would relate very easily to the fresh look and refinement of Jennifer Missoni -who next year will star in the cult TV series Gossip Girl- or to Charlotte Casiraghi -royal descent and an Italian surname. Also, think, for instance, what a marvellous "advertising" couple would top-model Bianca Balti and men like Raoul Bova or Alessandro Gassman be; or étoile Eleonora Abbagnato and fellow Sicilian Fiorello. Imagine, also, how happy mums would be if their children's snack was advertised by such good role-model like the healthy and beautiful swimming champion Federica Pellegrini, or if women like Bianca Brandolini d'Adda, Beatrice Borromeo or Mariacarla Boscono "helped" us choosing which water brand to buy.

We believe that sales would definitely benefit. Now, let's hope that marketing experts get the message. What do you think on the topic?
