Fairy-tales

Oh, what about modern ("fairy") tales? I'm thinking about the works of authors such as Roald Dahl...With " Charlie & the Chocolate Factory" in cinemas everywhere, I expected he'll soon be taken as inspiration, that is, of course, if anyone hasn't already did that. After all, I always thought Dahl had the best descriptions ever of witches, giants, supernatural creatures and ...humans...my imagination was on fire while reading his books, and i bet i'm not the only one!

^^^ Dahl was a genius!

These are images from Ellen Von Unwerth, and again are Riding Hood.

honestly..
and, please, no offense to scott...

the goldfrapp images seem like the high end version of the red riding hood images...
IMHO...

i tend to agree with stilista that i find the red riding hood stuff on the amateur-ish side...
it lacks a certain polish and maturity that the goldfrapp images have...

btw-those are the images you were talking about in the new gothic thread, right scott?...i thought that you were going to post those actually...:p
at least we have both ends of the spectrum represented here...

:flower:

No offense taken at all. I love both interpretations very much, though. I think with LRRH just has a slight different approach with their more furturistic, sort of deformed sensibility.

I was going to look for those images I mention in "Goth" thread first but I was at that page and I got a bit anxious about posting a thread so I took those first. Sorry if I confused everyone. I guess starting with the kooky stuff isn't surprising, however, coming from me.

Here's some more stuff from them-perhaps better pieces??

^^ glad they're appreciated! :p

Remember these Natalia Vodianova shots from Italian Vogue...they conjure up Fairy Tale to me, the old-fashioned, romanticness of them, even though they're not an actual story.

stilista, those Von Unwerth look distinctly similar the Goldfrapp images of Alison on the bed with the hybrid wolves....when were those taken??

I was thinking the same thing Scott! I don't when they were taken, but I'm pretty sure it was long before the Goldfrapp images. :innocent:

Speaking of fairy tales....... ...wasn't Dior F/W 05 haute couture collection very in that mood (even the decor)?

I think my favourite "Snow White" interpretation in film was Dario Argento's "Suspiria" and Sigourney Weaver playing the wicked step-mother(brilliantly)in "Snow White : A Tale of Terror". Alot of people say that version of the film is as close to the actual story anybody could ever achieve. Lest to mention, both have inspired me a great deal.

If anybody can find some good pictures from those,I would be greatly appreciative. Otherwise,I found nothing significant through Google or anything.

i love suspiria scott. another really good fairytale retelling is Freeway (interprets Little Red Riding Hood). it was produced by Oliver Stone, directed by Matthew Bright and stars Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland as the Big Bad Wolf. i dont know if this is too off topic, but a photographer i like, Anthony Goicolea, did a series of self potraits that depicted an A to Z of fairytales. the link: http://www.anthonygoicolea.com/NewAnthonySite/pages/fairytalemain.html
