What are some of your favourite themes and inspirations behind a collection?

I really love Lanvin's 1940's Paris inspiration for their Fall 09 RTW collection...
But I really dislike Prada's Fall 09 RTW collection, I don't know what their theme was.. but fishing boots were not so flattering.

I always like when Nicolas Ghesquiere goes back into the archives for his collecions.
This season was nice but I wish it was futuristic.
I also liked John Galliano's Dior HC Fall 2008 collection. I loved the "New Look" inspiration.
For this season's inspiration I really liked John Galliano's "Ukrainian bride" inspiration.
Good thread idea Cleo! :flower:

i like maybe technique themes.. like balenciaga will sometimes do something based on one technique, like lace-up or a kind of garment draped/stretched from a form.. and lanvin has done a collection with idea of using ribbons to make a garment instead of a whole piece of fabric.. yohji yamamoto made suits which look like suits at first and then billow out into a very floaty sort of transparent thing.. ^^ either that or materials+colours themes. prada and her aw 07 of inspired active wear for example
