StyleList: What inspired your new swimwear line?
Jessica Simpson: My spring collection was inspired by my favorite vacations and the jet-setting getaways I dream about. From the nautical seashores here at home, to hot Havana nights or the bold colors you'd think of in an exotic foreign land, the line is fun and flirty, but still so classic. I'm always inspired by my fans and I want my clothes to be pieces that women feel confident wearing anywhere.

    SL:
What was the design process like?
JS: It has been so much fun. I worked with my great team and Red Carter -- they really know swimwear. The product looks great and fits so well, which is really important in a swimsuit. My mom is also a huge part of the line. We love working together from inspiration to final product -- we touch each and every item.

Her capsule collection with Red Carter will launch exclusively at Macy's Herald Square in NYC this Sunday (Dec. 20).

The line will roll out in its entirety Dec. 30 at select Macy's stores nationwide and on the Jessica Simpson Collection Web site.

i did not know that "red carter" was a real guy. apparently he shows nearly every season for Miami Swim.

excerpt from sunsentinel.com about the designer

Carter started out in L.A. working for the likes of Mossimo, Guess, Victoria's Secret, Espirit before launching his swim line here in SoFla in 2004. He will continue to design his own Red Carter Glam, Red Carter and Sandy Bottoms collection while designing and developing swimwear for the tabloid target's fashion label Jessica Simpson Collection.

"I Jessicafy them," Carter said of his process that allowed him to whip out a line in less than two months. "I see what Jessica represents...and tell that story in fabric. The swim line has to represent her, who she is. She's up on current fashion. She's a down-to-earth country girl. She's a sweet girl, but she's also sexy, believe me."

Six weeks ago Carter traveled to New York to meet with Simpson and her mother Tina, who along with the rest of the family are juicy red meat for carnivorous gossip columns and celebrity blogs.

"You know how you hear the bad press or the gossip and you don't really know what to expect? We all embraced and hit it off right away. They are really just good people. It's been a lot of pictures and images back and forth. All I can say is thank God for the iPhone."

Macy's has already picked up the line, where it will retail in the $68-$95 range when it debuts this December. Styles include animal, checkerboard and floral print bikinis; triangle tops or sweetheart necklines in vivid hues; ruffled bandeaux with tie-side or scoop bottoms.
